FA Basic Design Advice?

Desert Fox

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I picked up FA for $5.

Figured out why they changed the movement mechanics, the precision from the old controls' buttons doesn't work right with sticks and FPS style.

QB movement has its appeal, although I find it's a bit too twitchy or spastic. Gundam fans must love it.

I'd rather have more delay between QB's, and a bit stronger normal boosting both in speed and in responsiveness from a stop or changing directions (it's sluggish). QB should require more calculated dodging, instead of seeming to encourage spam-dodging all the time regardless. There also doesn't seem to be any point to walking without boosting anymore.

Personally I'd prefer finely tuned and tweaked movement mechanics for fun, and less emphasis on dual gunning and dual fire. Probably me being old fashioned but I liked the emphasis being primarily on positioning and maneuvering, with focus mainly on a single weapon or attack type (but which could be switched). Feels like it encourages spamming even more.

Looking for some basic advice on design, for 1P only - more or less the equivalent of AC3's solid basics design:

MG500 or SHADE

good boosters

decoys

DM24/R24

R20/OC15

I can't be bothered with figuring out new stats, I just want reasonably accurate/quality weapons for missions with a solid frame and fundamentals. Simple usage.

Which regulations are you using? I can tell you things like the SALINE spread missile being broken in 1.00, or that laser blades in general, but especially in 1.20 or 1.15 are very useful in single player. If you abuse some of the major imbalancing issues the game had with weapons, it doesn't matter much what the rest of your design is.

If you're using 1.40 and want legitimate full build advice though, then I can probably give you more of the specifics you're looking for with frame, internals, etc.

Must be 1.0, I'm not online.

Thought it was spastic with the starter boosters, since I've juiced them, yeesh, spastic frenetic and frantic boosting around like crazy while spamming high attrition weapons seems like it'll be the big thing. I don't even want to think how useless BZs and grenades and heavy weapons are at those speeds. Blading is better at least, although it might be too good. Still prefer a slower and more calculated offense with bigger guns more viable.

I'm just dual shotgunning it spamming verts and hi-acts through the arena, although once I got the back gatling I dual'ed those up to chomp through ranks faster. Dual shotguns don't seem very effective, but they get the job done once I get the speed boost from dumping my missiles. Tough to use though.

The starter AC that's blue seems like most other parts are actually worse. I'm still running more or less the original frame, only improved the boosters in the last or second to last mission.

Do stabilizers do anything or is it just pointless complexity? What's the simplest one to use on a mid or light?

PA seems similar, can't be bothered figuring it out, and ignoring it seems to work fine so far. Pointless unnecessary complexity.

I noticed too that the parts are almost all fancy looking (and uglier, in my opinion) upgrades of old part models.

I'm still working on a way to reliably take down the super-speed spastic ACs in the mission you do with White Glint on your side. I can missile it up and then gun down one, but the second spastic one is too hard to hit and bring down before I'm whittled out. To beat Glint on the opposite mission I had to cheeze it up spamming dual rifles because almost nothing else hit reliably once my missiles were dry. (lame game design)

Miss some kind of pointer in the missions too, it's not always clear where to go or what to do. Needs an old school "TARGET" with arrow in some instances.

Talk about lame with only 4 stages for VS, only 2 of which are decent.

you can online once to get all of regulations. (after that you'll still have all of them even didn't online anyway)

since you only goes for story only, any BZ or any gatling stuffs is fine. (with any regulation)

effective shotties in FA is SG-O700, SAMPAGUITA and KAMAL.

full WHITE-GLINT much better, get them and use them if you don't care about shoulder unit. (but WHITE-GLINT head sucks anyway)

go for full GA bot (yellow one) or full AALIYAH (black one) at the first of the game might be better.

set stabilizer to be 0,0 or nearest ASAP (first "0" is about momentum of left-right and second "0" is about momentum of front-rear).

basically set this to be 0,0 or 0,-5 sometimes. if your play style was close combat or CQC, then set it to be 0,-10 or make it more "minus" number ASAP.

***you have to figured out for stabilizer setup many times and see the different speed for different direction of each movement to get the right setup***

PA is like defense screen, also using OB need both energy (normal energy and Kojima energy). if you run out your PA, it means you could be dead anytime.

for co-op with WG mission, both enemies are all about speed issue, rail gun like KAPTEYN or PHACT might be helpful.

if you mean lock-box....in FA, your TV screen is the border of your lock-box, when curser on screen, that means you see the target. when it comes to red, that means you can complete-lock on to fire.

I'll leave the rest for other person.

Hi, I'm also late to the FA party (and Armored Core in general), but here's my 'beginner's perspective (now I've finished all the missions on normal and a lot of the hard mode ones too):

I would have thought that Aaliyah (the black one) was the hardest starter one for a newcomer? Both the Tellus and Lancel are kind of blue. Which one did you pick? If it was Tellus (my first pick), the default arms are specialised for energy weapons so might be sluggish or unstable working with shell weapons compared with others.

Fragile (the fast one on the WG mission) I found messed with my locking using the Laura FCS on the Tellus when I first fought him (I don't know if that was the reason though). Maybe putting some FRS points into lock speed can help? (or buying the Inblue FCS if you have it available). He's armed with machineguns and chainguns so maybe keeping distance might help? (he's probably faster than you though)

I also have some questions!

The Holofernes side booster seems popular. What makes it tick, and what are the things people look at for boosters in general?

I saw your test field thread, and there's some pretty interesting info there.

Which Assault Rifle would you recommend for LW arms (as it was implied the Marve recoil kicks them back too much) as a Marve substitute? Or go with the lower damage accurate BFF AR? (or a regular Rifle?)

MR-R102 and 063ANAR are the good choices with any arms. (except SOBRERO)

anyway, personally I think MARVE had too much power for mostly LW arms but if you had some points to tuned it, go for firing stability and make it to be 400 or more would be fine. but change arms parts is the easier way.

I'm just realizing after seeing in some videos that you can use QB as a turn booster instead of just for movement. The controls I'm still having some issues with, trying to tap A instead of R trigger for boosters, and not being too swift with using the QB-turn boost.

Still find QB way too spastic and spammy.

Also finding it really annoying trying in the vertical boosting - you drop off a ledge then it's almost like you're instantly pulled

I was using the mid with the laser rifle to start I guess.

Anyway after a few more times I said screw it and just cheezed dual rifle on the QB spastic spammers in the WG mission. That and the mission at the end where you fight 2 ACs in the tight confines I also find really annoying - it's alternate mission routes and in one there's a blader who seems to never miss and kill you in one shot with the Moonlight.

Watched a few vids, and somehow in those the guys can drift around without getting hit and the enemy doesn't seem to QB as much, whereas when I play it feels like if I stop for 1-2 seconds I'm dead. Ended up spamming dual back chainguns with QB until I didn't die and it got the job done.

I did like the arena has ACs that might be representative of old Raven Haven players - or maybe not. The Owl, Engineer and Fox emblem all make me think of Watcher, Ky Kiske and me.

Picked up the Moonlight and put my build on a light and it's crazy as ever for missions or slow ACs. That and the heavy Plasma rifle which kills most stuff in 1 shot, anything it doesn't, 1-2 swipes of the Moonlight will. Light ACs seem to get a stab now. Blading seems insane with the distances covered with the right FCS.

Seem to have figured out better booster combo too, mostly as much power as possible without too insane drain.

I'll post the AC in designs.
