7 Sir Duke Lord Baron Von Ham the 4th

Son of a wealthy industrialist of a long line of wealthy industrialists, this pilot spends his family’s fortune on plating his ironclad AC in pure gold. Favoring rudimentary and hard hitting weaponry, he fashioned his family’s treasured heirloom, an oversized blade used for ore mining, on to his AC’s right arm. Though his AC looks very intimidating and tough, he hasn’t progressed much in the arena due to a lack of piloting skills and limited will to learn.

This thing is ugly as sin but looks dope still, wasteland trader indeed!

3.

I'm not entirely sure why I like this one but I do, its wild plain paint-wise but it still looks really interesting to me almost because of that?

1 Yellow Jacket

to me, this a somewhat generic bat with oversized arms and an unimaginative color scheme. ya we know vixen and EO core look dope, and those arms are hard to make ugly tbh, so even tho the frame looks good ima have to say its rather unimaginative. the zook is out of place as well in terms of shape and size, but at least it matches the arm extremely well. colors are basically all black with the inclusion of a color that contrasts the saturation and value of black, so its not much different from redblack (tho to be fair it goes along with the yellow jacket theme, although im not sure the egg came before the chicken). the back weapons are the strongest part of this ac imo in terms of relating to yellow jackets, since they have that sort of bug carapace look and texture to them. the radar looks very much like bug wings too with the use of some imagination. i dont get to see that head very often though and i think thats the next best part about this ac to me.

wat

im not giving u a write up u mexican

3 Merkava Mk 5

google tells me this is named after a real tank and after seeing that, the only thing that makes this similar to that is that it has treads. a boxier look and better use of weapon arms or back cannons or something would have been a better match for the name. ignoring the name, the paint is actually something that i can greatly appreciate, as it cleverly and sparingly uses different colors in the head core arms and legs but still appears cohesive. however it tends to be one of those acs that have a very strong color but the colors themselves are too muted and standard, so they are not very notable in comparison to more vibrant and bold ACs. weakest part about this ac is the right arm unit. its too flat and lacks dimension whereas just about every other part on this ac has loads of dimension to it. its only saving grace is that the right arm and left arm units match shape-wise to the asymmetrical core "pecs" (for lack of a better term), but i am curious to know if that was a consicous decision. i also dont like that theres symmetry with the back units and no symmetry with the arm units. the core offers the opportunity to play with asymmetry a bit more than normal (as shown in the arms) and i even think that the right arm could have been saved if it were balanced with a choice back unit.

4 Last Agent of the Controller

what a coincidence u also managed to get last place in my book

maybe dats wat da name is alluding to

its basically a poorly written ac3 fanfic represented in robit form

5 Obruo

to be honest this AC confuses me just as much as Man Shoes in the MOA division. im not quite sure what to make of this AC and i have no idea what the designer was intending because while it is visually interesting it is also visually garbage. its kinda like staring at a disabled person way too long because youre genuinely intrigued by the grotesque uniqueness of it all

6 Woodgutter

my first impression of this ac was "that is definitely a solid third place, no higher or no lower" and then i looked through the rest of the bats and still hold to that statement. it looks like a very well made arena robit that could easily have a little biography behind it and stuff but its just slightly beyond that in terms of its uniqueness. the paint is very well done because of how the camouflage transitions from red to green almost seamlessly from arm to arm. the head is the unifying part of the two arm part choices, as the head eye is analogous to the sniper rifle scope, and the little radar panels match up very well to the parry blade spikes. i think the shields could have been a different and stronger pick though, but they do add a bit of balance as it stretches the composition across the shoulders a bit more since the sniper and back cannons create a very strong forwards-pointing look.

7 Sir Duke Lord Baron Von Ham the 4th

at first this ac looks pretty damn great but after looking at it longer i do not agree with some of the choices. i get that the robot is supposed to be gold plated and stuff, but there seems to be no real rhyme or reason to make the core and arms that shade of gold. i feel that the joint color is the strongest use of gold in the whole robot, and the core and arms were just done for the sake of it. i also think that the rest of the ac should be more vibrantly colored to match the grandiose of a baron, especially a baron that has a tradition of gold plating. i want to see borderline ridiculous colors in a haphazard appliance, with different shades of red, purple, white, and yellow attacking every portion of the AC to contrast the obnoxiously placed bright yellow gold, and instead theres this muted gray with clay brown and a rusty red. not very baron-like if you ask me. it shouldve either been entirely ridiculous or entirely subdued, not both. at least the frame choice is interesting because of the way the core ties together both rounded shapes and blocky shapes very well.

8 Carmilla

the paint is the number one strongest aspect of this ac. the way in which the different shades of red in the back units, shoulders, and left arm weapon are paired with an almost central red shade on the frame make the whole ac look very pleasing. colors were rearranged in the right arm to match the laser rifle's darkness, which also balances the back weapons and color tone of the rest of the ac. i think that there could have been at least one blocky frame part to pair up with the arm weapons and support that transition, but whatever. the white paint in the legs is especially strong because it makes the legs appear more as a mechanical structure. it looks like those legs have supports or braces or external joints on them, which is something that many robit fans can appreciate. i sort of dont like the blue optional color, especially because the purple optional color was used in the hands to match the laser rifle, but i can understand its application was to provide a more dynamic paint scheme to the ac

9 Wasteland Trader

its not often we get to see solid hover legged robits in LR and its great that this AC is here because of that. hover legs are tricky to design because their active and resting positions can change the entire aesthetic of the ac, which forces either the designer to be more imaginative or the viewer to be more imaginative. i think the varying shades of yellow and green do well to give off the wasteland feel, although a slight notch down in saturation might make it appear as more dusty. the weapons are all pipes, tubes, and sheet metal of sorts, which gives off the idea that they were found or jury rigged very nicely. the vents on the legs have that fallout/mad max vibe to them for some reason and the blockiness of the ac add to its junklike appearance. I think my favorite part about this AC is the four little bolts on top of the loris shoulders, which adds that look of jury rigged scrap metal quite well to the ac even though its a very subtle and possibly unintentional addition to it.

10 Matrix

EXORCET IS A HERO

11 Roids

very well constructed and cohesive AC, but the paint is unimaginative (especially because it is a default paint) and the symmetry of it is almost too overbearing. all the parts fit together extremely well, but just because they fit together well doesnt make them any more exciting

12 test ac please ignore

NO

13 Humidor

this ac is one of my favorites due to its color, shape, and concept. it has this almost unassuming appearance to it, where any person who sees it could easily imagine I COULDVE MADE THAT TOO but to me thats what makes it so special. if i had made this ac i would have completely overlooked it due to its simplicity, but in reality its a very well made ac that has strong color choice and the concept of cigar boxes are present throughout the ac (well except maybe the legs). everything is featured in a duet (core, arms, shoulders, back units, feet), and the main defining elements are all box or rectangular shaped. humidor is a cigar brand iirc, so imagining this ac shooting cigars is both funny and somewhat realistic to my imagination. the trite, tried and true teal and blue is very well done here, as it is the perfect level of contrast between the orange brown and teal, with a shade of gray to provide additional detail to the correct areas, whcih maintains the robotic apperance of the ac.

14 Top Notch Pilot

I'M BACK FROM HELL BITCHES!

15 Orbits

this has the same problem that roids has, where its a very sound and solidly constructed AC but its too solidly constructed and the paint is just a preset default. this one however offers a slightly more unique appearance because it revolves around the idea of domes and spheres (DID U C DA PUN THERE????) . i would appreciate this ac much more if more time had been spent with the colors

16 Hexagonal

very much like orbits and roids, this AC is again well constructed but unimaginative. while it is less interesting frame-wise, it is slightly more interesting in the paint department because it is an original paint scheme. the varying shades of blue give, the weapon arms, and the rj legs give off an almost MT-like appearance, but i feel that the ac could have been default gray and it would have been just as interesting. theres no sense of contrast or uniqueness to it, its just blue and stuff. the head choice could have been different, but i cant argue that it doesnt work because it does fit with the core in a strange but appropriate manner.

1 - Yellow Jacket

Solid frame, excellent use of concept, good colouring. Love the use of yellow details in the transition from right to left. The zook is actually one of my favourite parts of the bot, in large part because of how it transitions off the arm. I also like the head a lot here. Reminds me a bit of Waspinator from Beasties (that's Beast Wars to you Yanks...and the rest of the world too, but especially the Yanks).

2 - /watch?v=b6LmkI_GiPw

The video is unsettling. The bot is fine but not spectacular.

3 - Merkava Mk 5

It's pretty easy to overlook 'cuz it's kinda unassuming, but I've looked over quieter bots before and regretted it. I like this a bit more each time I look at it, and it really is a pretty solid looking tank overall. Does a good job of countering the idle position, too.

4 - Last Agent of the Controller

Weapon set is my fave part of this. The rest is fine too, just really super typical. It'd make a great choice for a model.

5 - Obruo

I feel like there's something here, but I'm not quite sure what. The frame is solid, so that's a good start. I don't like the application of the paint, but there's definitely something to the palette that was used. The weapons...ehhhh, I like the zook, but that's about it. I think this is one of the more interesting bots in the division just because of potential.

6 - Woodgutter

Washed out, grimey, and rugged. Real solid look to it. Love the blood splatter from the right arm blades, and the transition from right to left. The side shields are probably a bit too bright and clean to truly fit with the rest of the bot.

7 - Sir Duke Lord Baron Von Ham the 4th

I like me some heavies, and this one has a pretty unique frame. I tried it out on its own and didn't think it worked as well, which is a testament to just how well the paint brings it together. There's a lot of parts that have elements that play off each other, too. The one thing that bugs me is that I really wish the zook was yellow, and that the orange ("gold") was toned down to match that better. There's a definite synergy to the weapons involving that grey colour, but that would still be there. Still real solid though, and one of the bots that truly stands out to me in LR.

8 - Carmilla

Great colour balance. Superb frame balance. Decent weapon balance. The squareness of the handgun is offset for me by the more rectangular look of the extensions, and then into the back units. I feel there's a definite flow there. I'm not sure on the laser rifle. It's incorporated as well as it could be, but I'm not sure that means it was the right choice. LR is on a roll.

9 - Wasteland Trader

Another really solid bot. The frame and weapon set are fantastic, as is the distribution of colour on the frame, but...I'm really not digging the mix of oranges and browns that's going on. I do like the greener elements a lot though.

10 - Matrix

Ex may be the only person here who has carved out a style more definitively than Nomrah. Props.

11 - Roids

Yeah I mean it's symmetrical and balanced and all that and generally well put together, it just doesn't do enough for me. The most interesting part is the extensions and how well they work with the arms and match up with the colour of everything.

13 - Humidor

Concept and execution are fine, but it lacks that extra oomph. I do like the real warm paint tho.

14 - Top Notch Pilot

Y'know, I actually like that frame quite a bit.

15 - Orbits

Yeah I mean it's symmetrical and balanced and all that and generally well put together, it just doesn't do enough for me. Does a good job of countering the idle position, too.

16 - Hexagonal

I hate the paint 'cuz the colours used are cool, it's just so much of one hue, and the extensions allow me to see how I would've preferred it. The frame is cool and the stance is great.

1st Place: 8 Carmilla

I don't think the right hand weapon meshes too well with the frame, and I think the frame itself is unspectacular, but the coloring is very catchy and elegant, showing plenty of attention to detail. Subtle intricacies like the the barrels of the left handgun mirroring the barrels of the extensions perfectly, and the blue circle details on the very bottom of the legs mirroring the blue circles throughout the core make it so this AC is very engaging to look at, as your eye can't help but wonder around the entire composition. The paint job also gives it an almost glowing bioluminescent-like organic quality to the bot, giving it a strong sense of narrative as well.

2nd Place: 16 Hexagonal

Those large missile arms and back rockets are both very appealing and hard-mechanical looking parts. I entered an AC last contest that played with the aesthetics of those parts in particular, and it's a combination that's not hard to go wrong with; this AC proves that as well. The boxy shape of the legs and core bring out the best of the arms and rockets, while the aggressive look of the Ladybug head gives this AC a menacing look. I'm also a fan of the paint job too, which is both simple yet subtle at the same time. I think good blue paint jobs are hard to pull off (unlike 10--DEE EQUALS). The green tint to this blue paint makes it fresh to look at, while the darker blue trim provides a foundation for the lighter tint to play off of, and help incorporate the color of the weapons in.

3rd Place: 1 Yellow Jacket

This one had to grow on me before I appreciated it. The frame and weapons are a random mishmash of different proportions and shapes that eventually came to be accepted by my eyes. Truth be told it's the kind of random medley that I'd probably see myself building as well. The black and yellow are rather uninspiring, but the barely-present dark teal really fleshes out the paint job for my tastes. It's pleasantly balanced on the frame, but perhaps too present on the head. The large, bulky arms and bazooka are hilariously contrasted against the minuscule stature of the legs and core, which makes this AC more dynamic looking. The back units and extensions are what really makes this entrant however, as the extensions and radar flare out, giving a sense of buzzing wings, while the complex, mechanical look of the rockets are usually almost always a plus to the look of any AC.

1- Yellow Hornet

The big thing this guy has going on is the one big arm. It looks rad and when I first saw it I thought this would be a top three contender. The subtle blue-green and black with the rest of the paint is alright looking. Can't say much else about the bot, it does a good job of fitting the theme it was going for.

2- Watch

I like the colour purple. Not the musical.

3- Merkava

I want to try and say something positive about this robot. Nothing comes to mind, sadly. It's paint is just so bland, and that linear gun is one of the ugliest guns in the game. Yuck.

4- Dove Bot

It's a bot from AC3 with LR weapons. Wow, so special!

5-Obruo

That arm shouldn't be completely red, you idiot.

6- Woodgutter

I've played around with camo enough times to realize I hate camo paints. I don't think they look good. It's an opinion, and a bad one I'm sure but I can't help it. The frame's alright. Doesn't look terrible, but I'm not feeling the radar head on this one. I'm going to go ahead and say this guy is plenty average.

7-Lord Baron

This guy does right what Obruo does wrong. The asymmetrical look is pulled off well, and the colours all compliment each other forming an interesting paint scheme. Normally I'm not a fan of those legs but I'd say they work well here. I like this bot a lot.

8- Carmilla

I've looked over this bot a lot but it's really not that bad looking. I'm not a fan of the right arm weapon, and the arms and core don't mesh very well in my garbage opinion. I'd say decent at best.

9- Wasteland Trader

It does the asymmetry more subtle than the other bots in this gen, and the colours mix well enough, but at the same time it reminds me of vomit. Also not a fan of the weapons going every which way, and I dislike the legs.

10- Matrix

This is worse than Wyvern.

11- Roids

I feel like we already saw this guy last contest, or whenever D-A-D was entered. Really it's Dad and Gym Guy mixed into one. The Duel Etttin large and in charge is overplayed by this point. I do kinda like the white paint scheme though, so props there.

12- Test AC

This is still worth a chuckle every time I see it.

13- Humidor

This paint scheme is pretty darn good. The frame also is pretty darn good. This guy pulls off a cool, sleek look without having anything gimmicky. Really like it.

14- TNP

Someone voted for this on the other forums, I think, so kudos.

15- Orbits

For once I see a tank that's pretty cool looking. I like the spherical theme is has going for it, and the front view pic makes it look really great with the layers. The paint is okay.

16- Hexagonal

I could stare at this guy all day.

Yellow Jacket

It's a nice AC. Doing the big arm LW thing that everyone does, but if it looks good I won't really knock it for that. I'm bit surprised that the legs fit so well as I only find them so-so to be honest because they're a bit too thin to look practical. They work here though, because of the similarly thin core and head I guess.

/watch?v=HXZWM0XmYYg

It's like the thing above it, but with a weird core. Etten looks fat. The other one wins. However, HIDDEN EXXON. Can you find it?

Merkava Mk 5

Real tanks tend to look good. This one doesn't. It doesn't as a cosplay tank or as an AC tank. It's tall and looks really narrow with those arm weapons. Which is the opposite of how I think a tank should look.

Last Agent on the Controller

It looks controllery. But it's not terribly good looking itself. GUN IS RED DEE EQUALS

Obruo

This is an interesting AC. A lot of people seem to not like it, but I wouldn't say it's as bad as they make it out to be. It's kind of like something ugly enough to make you look at it. Which is what nob said. Which means I hate this exactly as much as everyone else after all. Fkn. Also hanging left arm weapon. Boo.

Woodgutter

This belongs in MoA division. Because it's a nice quad. It's great on many levels. It's a nice looking frame and the weapons actually compliment it a lot. It's got good use of camo, it looks functional, and I guess I buy into the thing where it looks like it could be a ranking AC. It's def good stuff.

Sir Duke Lord Baron Von Ham the 4th

Reminds me of Yellow Jacket. I really like the frame. I don't know if the back weapons should be there. I certainly don't see them when I first look at it and it looks great. Then they work their way into my vision and I'm like OK. Hanging right arm weapon. Boo.

Carmilla

Maybe Woodgutter spoiled me. I look at this and see it's not that AC. The frame isn't quite as coherent. I tend to like less organic heads on quads and RJ's, but that's just a personal bias. I guess it's not that bad, but the competition has it beat in this case.

Wasteland Trader

I've seen it since the beginning. I've talked about it, so I'll just be short here. The theme is captured very well, but for some reason it doesn't appeal to me that match.

Matrix

WHO EVER IT WAS WHO MADE THIS AC IS SOME KIND OF INHUMAN DEITY. IF ONLY WE KNEW WHO IT WAS. SAWA GOD. EXORCET IS A HERO.

Etten looks dumb though, should be Griffon.

Roids

I like it. The color is default, but it's a nice color. Better original AC and default color than the other way around. The Ettins look good on it too. Fkn.

test ac please ignore

OK

Humidor

Neat. The first image nails the AC and it's definitely a stand out in this ACDC. I know people were going crazy on how boxes matched boxes and things, but for me it's simpler. It's a menacing looking weapon. And while it's killing you, you'll appreciate the good looks.

Top Notch Pilot

You're on the cover. No u.

Orbits

This is a tanky tank. Also has bubbles. Also has the default color that it makes good use of. The only flaw is that it is offering you lollipops. No one will fall for this ploy. It is obvious that the lollipops are a trap. Don't talk to strangers even when they offer you nice things.

Hexagonal

Humidor happened. Then the knock off clones flooded the market. But they aren't the same. The head is weird, but it's a good weird maybe. Also I don't see how it's one color. It's green and blue.

Out of all the contests so far, this division has been the hardest for me to decide my votes in. All three of these are near equal.

Votes

  1. #1 - Yellow Jacket: If you're not voting for this cool guy you either made it or you're a dumb hater.
  2. #6 - Woodgutter: Strong theme and execution. Really not the prettiest bot with its drab colors, but it works due to the theme. Quad legs seem appropriate here, but I wonder if a radar would be better than two gats.
  3. #9 - Wasteland Trader: Peculiar build. I do like the colors and shoulder parts, and the legs evoke a sense of past and fantasy caravans.

Bonus Comments

  • #2 - /watch?v=b6LmkI_GiPw: Awk vid, average bot.
  • #3 - Merkava Mk 5: Also average.
  • #4 - Last Agent of the Controller: I like this one, all the body parts match because of the circular thingy on the front of all of 'em. Decent colors and fitting loadout.
  • #5 - Obruo: S/O to the designer brave enough to submit this ugly beast. I was tempted to vote this for numbah three but there were too many good candidates. I fully appreciate how organic this guy looks compared to all the others, and the two-tone color palette is chillin'. The smiley face in the front picture is creepily attractive.
  • #7 - Sir Duke Lord Baron Von Ham the 4th: Close tie with #9. The shadows of the garage doesn't do its paint justice, but it is what it is.
  • #8 - Carmilla: I like this one a lot, its entire design just couldn't top Woodgutter's intense theme.
  • #10 - Matrix: Average at best. The intensity of the blue is off-putting.
  • #11 - Roids: Too plain when there are many strong contenders in this division.
  • #13 - Humidor: This guy is actually quite high on my list. Despite my dislike of these legs they fit the aesthetic theme all too well. The colors are fantastic. Wish you well bud.
  • #14 - Top Notch Pilot: Wat.
  • #15 - Orbits: Another bot with a good overarching aesthetic theme, yet the actual design does not appeal to me because it's ugly. The lack of color doesn't distract from the physical build and is decent in this case, but again with other strong contenders this dude didn't stand a chance.
  • #16 - Hexagonal: Go join Wyvern in hell.
