Hello and welcome to another official ACU Armored Core Design Contest! This ACDC will be focusing on Armored Core 2: Another Age. You can use Armored Core 2 to build your AC for this ACDC, but your AC will be rated as if it is from AC2:AA. This means you have to be careful of accidentally overweighting your AC as stats may have been changed between the two games in ways that can affect your AC's legality for this contest. Also, remember that in multiplayer mode AC's take more heat damage than in single player mode.

Participants are encouraged to be creative with their design and paint, but to remember that the utility and usability of their design is still very important. There will be no limit in regards to maximum participants for this ACDC. All legal AC's submitted will be displayed for voting. The exact voting categories for this design contest will be kept secret until the voting period begins, so I can't tell you exactly what they are. What I can tell you is that you should expect the standard categories that focus on creativity and competitive ability, but you should also expect some new categories to win awards in. Put some good effort into your design and there's a good chance you'll be rewarded!

After the cut-off date, all submissions will be posted as a reply to this topic and then the topic will be opened for voting. Once the AC submissions are posted, each member may cast their vote for which AC will win which category. Members can vote for the same AC in every category or a different AC per category. There will only be one winner for each category. No runner-up awards here. Members who cast a vote are encouraged to provide commentary on the AC's they vote for, but are not required to. Further information regarding voting will be available once the voting period begins.

The cut-off date for design submissions is Wednesday, December 29th, 2010 at exactly 2:00 AM Central Time (-06:00 GMT).

You must PM me your design to have it entered into the Design Contest. Please use the design template provided in the spoiler tags at the bottom of this post for the PM. You can just highlight the template, copy it, click the link in this paragraph, and then paste it into the PM. It should maintain the formatting. If not, don't worry about it. I will format the post when I receive it. Just fill in the template, title the PM "ACDC Submission", and then click the "Send" button. You may re-submit your design if you change something up until the cut-off date, but not after. If you need a larger paint section, replace the standard paint template with the optional paint template provided at the bottom of this post.

I will PM you with a request for missing information if your submission is missing key part information. If you fail to provide the information your design will be disqualified. Submissions without paint data will be defaulted to the standard grey starter AC paint scheme. AC submissions without a name will be defaulted to "UNKNOWN". All contestants will remain undisclosed until the voting period is over, at which point their names will go up next to their designs.

Rules/Legality:

  • Each contestant may only submit one design to the contest.
  • Do not submit an AC design that you have previously posted on ACU.
  • Your PM must be titled ACDC Submission.
  • Please use the template provided at the bottom of this post for your design submission.
  • All designs will be treated as if they do not have Human Plus.
  • All designs will be treated as though they were created under Hard Mode conditions.
  • Your design must be functional; it may not be overweight, have its arms overweight, or be missing key parts.
  • There are no part restrictions for this design contest.

If you have any questions or comments regarding this ACDC, feel free to PM me about them.

Voting has closed for this ACDC and the winners of each category have been decided. The tiebreaker round saw more action than the standard voting round. Isn't that neat? I hope you all had as much fun as I did!

Anyway, here are our contest winners.

It's time to rate our contestants! Remember to carefully consider which AC you believe should win which category. If you have good reasons for your decisions, post them along with your votes. It helps everyone understand why you picked what you picked and it may help others catch things that they might miss when voting. Don't forget to open the AC's full design statistics that are inside of the spoiler tag under its image. There's even a short description in the spoilers to help you better understand the AC and its intended purpose, so be sure to read it all!

If you find that there is no AC that you feel fits a certain category or you do not wish to vote for a certain category, you may choose to leave that category blank. You may only do this for a single category. You may not choose to skip the Miss AC2:AA category. You may not skip more than one category. You must vote in all other categories or your vote will be invalidated. Do not vote for your own AC in any category as this will invalidate all of your votes. Also, remember that an AC must meet the basic qualifications for a category for you to vote for it. If you're confused about the voting categories, diligently read the contents of the spoiler below.

Voting Categories & Details

  • LAN Champ: This category is for the AC that packs the most competitive tournament power out of the submitted designs. No criteria other than competitive Player vs Player power should carry significant weight when used to judge AC's for this category, barring that the AC's are feasibly usable by a human. A player who wants to be sure to win a local tournament he may be attending would use this design.
  • E-Z P-Z Joe: This category is for the AC that is the easiest to use, while still providing decent competitive power, out of the submitted designs. Criteria such as a large lockbox, lots of ammo, high energy reserves, good cooling, and generally new player friendly design traits should carry the most weight when judging AC's for this category. A player who is new to the game in question but wants to play competitively and doesn't know where to start would use this design.
  • MacGyverBot: This category is for the AC that is the most creatively competitive out of the submitted designs. AC's in this category make use of weaker parts, niche parts, or non-standard playstyles while still being competitive enough to have a chance in a tournament setting, given a bit of luck and a player of good quality. A player who wants to win a local tournament he may be attending in a surprising and unexpected way would use this design.
  • Samurai Jack: This category is for the AC that remains decently competitive while using a left arm blade out of the submitted designs. AC's being judged for this category must use a blade without the intention to drop it into a non-blade weapon and with somewhat of a focus on actually using the blade for some significant purpose. A player who wants to be competitive in a standard tournament while sporting a left arm blade would use this design.
  • King Leonidas: This category is for the AC that remains decently competitive while using a left arm shield out of the submitted designs. AC's being judged for this category must use a shield without the intention to drop it, while also insuring that the AC has the ability to utilize the shield to some significant extent. A player who wants to be competitive in a standard tournament while sporting a left arm shield would use this design.
  • Fashion Model: This category is for the AC that is the most aestheticly pleasing out of the submitted designs. The colors, shape, and overall appearance of an AC should be the factors carrying the most weight when judging AC's for this category. A player who is more concerned with the appearance of his AC than the competitive power of his AC would use this design.
  • Miss AC2:AA: This category is for the AC that members of ACU found the most interesting or entertaining on an overall scale out of the submitted designs. This category is for choosing your favorite design out of all the submissions. You may use any criteria or any mix of criteria when judging an AC for this category. The winner of this category will be automatically entered into the next Miss ACUniverse contest.

Voting closes on Wednesday, January 5th, 2011 at exactly 2:00AM Central Time (-06:00GMT).

Here is a short form you can copy/paste for voting. Just replace the XX with the design you believe should win that category and post the reply to this thread. If you choose to not vote for a category, leave that category blank. Remember, you can only skip voting for a single category and you may not skip the Miss AC2:AA category.

Description:

This is a typical heavy with NIGHT for guaranteed damage, 1DA for easy missile spam, and large rockets for cutting through heavy/tank defense. The blade is mainly used for positioning, mobility, and blade guided rockets. Blading will rarely need to be used to attack head on. The frame is made with turning and energy drain in mind while getting as much defense as possible.

Description:

The marshmallow is a confection that, in its modern form, typically consists of sugar or corn syrup, water, gelatin that has been softened in hot water, dextrose, flavourings, and sometimes colouring, whipped to a spongy consistency. Some marshmallow recipes call for eggs. This confection is the modern version of a medicinal confection made from Althaea officinalis, the marshmallow plant.

The last one obviously required no effort on the part of it's maker, as it's an AI bot from AC2.

onto the rest of them.

Hollywood, you have to change your Samurai Jack vote as Design #08 doesn't have a blade and therefore can not qualify for that award. Since you already skipped voting for the E-Z P-Z Joe category you have no skips left and one of the two have to change for your votes to be legal.

noob, your Samurai Jack vote will be treated as a skip since Design #04 doesn't have a blade and therefore can not qualify for that award. If you choose to excercise your skip for a different category you'll have to change your votes to maintain legality.

I went ahead and added the bit about qualifiers into the voting post.

#1: Bad frame choice. I'd roll ROCK/ROOK/303S/02A/GEX/ALM/B1000/CM6/00A/BRM04/GT00/IMI/HG111/400SL or T100. Alternate design would use XA2 core with moonlight.

The big problem is the bad FCS choice. You'll want BLAZER or ALM when running WS and single lock missiles.

The weapon setup is only good at dealing with close range ACs that need to maintain close range. Your only threat against the common sniper is IMU which probably won't get you anywhere when they pop a decoy. Lightening up the AC to be able to use SRF9/LB/XC213 is an alright option but you can also go the HG111 missile heavy route above. Most spammer bots usually forgo using a blade at all (or just starter blade) and running PRT means you'll need either speed or BAMS287 to deal with missiles. LB can be dangerous to use since heavies/tanks will laugh off the damage since it doesn't heat.

Simply finding a faster frame can do this AC a lot of good on its own.

#2: There are two issues. One being that you are using a crazy drainy hover. The next problem is the FCS. BLAZER without VIECH on SP lock is hard to use and I'd seriously recommend XA2 to run both VIECH and E++ as well as gaining the ability for mass pop OB. The other route is to keep ROOK and use ALM instead to maintain some energy. GK10 is unnecessary and you can easily run A3. IDA/IMU works better on hovers since GT00 requires more air play. Converting this into an 02A biped would make it a lot better.

#3: Simple fix. Change booster to GEX, FCS to ALM, add AA00 to extension. Change LE to LOSP if you feel missiles lock too slow. QHT lock speed just isn't necessary and reduces your WS box size too much.

Change to ROCK/ROOK/2112 and dump CNDR for a lot more def and output. If you so desire.

#4: ROCK/ROOK/CEX/VAT/GEX, dump the shield and add side shields. Use VIECH instead of SAVER and ACC. LOSP does nothing for PURSUIT so use LE. Good luck fighting NIGHT bots.

#5: Changing up to 707/E and using turn boosters will help against energy weaps.

#6: Pretty bad AC. SV is no good, energy MG is bad, pursuit doesn't seem to work well here either. B999 bad.

Build I came up with is pretty different: ROCK/ROOK/707E/9001A/GEX/ALM/B1000/CM6/00A/BT180/IMU/SD120/GN210/3443.

You can pretty much use whatever missile you want. IMU, IDA, GT00, M55/6, IMI will all work ok. K99 can be used instead of GN210 but you'll want E++ and a 2nd missile pack which means harder tracking and more drain.

#7: Instead of using BRM04 you're better off with a 2nd missile pack. IMU+GT00 is good. With that you can change the arms to BG and add side shields (this maintains the same shell def while increasing the en def). Up the core to XA2 for VIECH and much better OB. You'll be forced to use the starter blade but this AC isn't about blading to begin with.

#8: Bulking up is the way to go here. XX33 legs with IDA slapped on the back and XA2 core + turn boosters. Decoys are helpful too.

The legs are great for hopping all the time with constant OB.

Welp, it turns out we have a tie for the Fashion Model award and I can't settle for ties! That means we're going into a tie-breaker round.

For the next 24 hours anyone may vote for either Design #03 or Design #04. This is a special seperate voting round. You may not vote for any other AC and if you have voted before you can vote again now. The one with the most votes will be the winner of the Fashion Model award. Get to voting!

=D
