Argo 3d

I put 3d in the title just cause I can.

So I got around to watching this movie yesterday night after hearing all the positive reviews and Oscar hype surrounding it. Ben Affleck's had a history of directing good movies as well, in fact I don't think he's directed a really bad movie yet.

The real event the movie was based around is truly weird and humorous, and the movie closely followed suit, providing a good couple of laughs for me throughout the rescue plan's buildup. The movie managed to stay fresh during the initial scenes and amusing as the plan was slowly developing. It's also a blast to see the movie's portrayal of horrible late 70s/early 80s personal fashion.

However I feel the movie's eventual climax was short-lived and uneventful-- even though Affleck took the artistic liberty to add hollywood-ed dramatic elements to the rescue operation that never happened in the actual operation 33 years ago. It's not a fatal flaw for the movie, but it does cause for an underwhelming last 30 minutes. I also can't fault the movie too much, as adding any more than what was necessary could have easily turned the movie into a cheese-fest.

Besides John Goodman and Alan Arkin's comic lines in the movie, there wasn't really standout acting or character development that I could cling to, the story panned out to be pretty straight forward. Any moments of tension felt a bit disjointed as well-- I wasn't really as emotionally evolved as I could have been.

I feel the movie's biggest strength is also its biggest weakness. By choosing such an oddball story, Argo manages to stay entertaining throughout its buildup, but at the same time resolves itself too fast, as the actual operation did. I feel it could have just as easily been a great documentary film as well, if one were to take it that way.

All my criticism aside, I enjoyed my experience with it, laughed many times during it, and came to appreciate the movie as a whole, but I'd only recommend it as a Red Box/Netflix Rental. It isn't a big action flick that you'd sorely miss out on if you didn't see it in theater, but the movie flows well enough and its foundations are solid enough that you'd miss out if you didn't rent it the moment it came out.

I give it 4 Go Fuck Yourselves out of 5.

Oi we had some old lady having orgasms over it sitting across from us. Besides me and my Dad I think she was the only one that got the humor of the movie at all.

Note:The rest of the 16 people seemed like miserable old farts anyways.

SPOILERS

I had fun riffing the film in my head so much stuff to make fun of.

Ben looked out of place in the movie as a whole I kept thinking he was the Chosen One from Kung Pow!

When he gets his idea the camera zooms in on BFTPOTA and the first thing I think he's going to say is "WE DRESS THEM UP LIKE GORILLAS WHO ESCAPED FROM THE CIRCUS!"

Then the last act had Bryan Cranston running around the CIA office all mad and crap telling everyone the operation is a go because Ben had to have his big HERO BONER! And he saves the day (obviously dramataized)at the last minute.

When the tickets come in and Ben Looks up. "Thankyou Spy God"

I agree with the tension not being as strong as one would have expected and I figured out this movie was going to be pretty straightforward after the opening scenes. I give Ben props for playing it straight without too much unneeded action and over the top lines though.

I don't really look at fashion too much and I pretty much forgot what everyone was wearing, Unless your talking about the HUGE glasses and PORNO mustaches. The one guy out of the group who has neither Glasses or a Mustache looks like a Serial Rapist Pedophile. This guys just so happens to be the one they apparently identify while having kids assemble the photographs.

Speaking of that, watching the woman with the kids. "Yes good Muhammad, identify the infidels"

This is what we've been reduced too as a society.

RIP JOHN WAYNE!
