The 45 Minute Series

Yeah I was gonna ask if they were going to be complete do overs or further modifications. I agree, best to further push additional refinement only on the ones you are most fond of, a lot of time can be pumped into landscapes such as these. Edited by Nomrah

Yeah the mountains or whatever being in the same general plane as the buildings makes the mountains look tiny. I think maybe it's because there's not a lot of atmospheric perspective to give it depth. Everything from middle ground forward is pretty crisp so they all look like they're right up next to the viewer.

Atmospheric perspective in under 45 mins is kind of a tough goal if you're trying to work on fundamental stuff but if you go back and polish these up that's the biggest thing I'd suggest looking out for.

This one is a bit different. I started out with a gradient and the time is 35 minutes instead of 45. I forgot to keep track of the time because I was capturing this as video to present to a class as proposal.

This will most likely be one I'll follow through with and work on for hours. As for the 45 minutes series, I'm going to try to focus on some better perspectives, because all the perspectives thus far have been boring.

After 90 minutes of reconfiguring the scene for a better composition-- taking the fundamentals of rule of thirds, triangulation and perspective into account, then making some level and tonal adjustments to give the element of depth, I ended up with something like this.

I'll work on this painting for about 30 or so hours and show you guys the end result during the next month or so.

It's been a while! The last couple weeks were devoted to finishing the last painting and working on other art-related stuff and shows.

Here's the finished product of the last painting, full size is 24x42.67" at 300dpi.

And here's the next 45 minute series. I actually had a vague idea of what I wanted to do here so no 5 minute shot.

I had a dream where I went to an art show in some giant auditorium with a huge projector displaying artwork, I was milling around when I saw one of my pictures that I did not submit flash up on the display. Some dude was taking credit for my work after stealing it off the net, such bullshit.

Not quite within the rules of the 45 minutes series, but nevertheless it is 45 minutes worth of work. The difference here is that I came in with the idea of a forest of some sort, and had the benefit of working in grayscale. The actual reason for the scene is it was made to be used as a background for a projection in an art show. People will stand in front of the screen and my partner and I will take turns drawing on them, and into the scene.

Been a while. I don't expect anybody to take this as the cleanest and most legible thing out there, but I think after I spend some more time with it I'll get it nice and rendered out. I started out with an idea for a foresty and kinda dark scene, but ended up with something like the swamp in dark souls meets bioluminescent Avatar shit.
