Overall Thoughts

I believe that this contest is a success. There were plenty of designs submitted and all generations of Armored Core were represented. I am glad that I allowed people to submit 2 designs per division for this contest since that increased the number of designs for the contest. Of course, should I do this contest again, I will probably make it just 1 since I would expect more participants and it would force people to really choose their design wisely. I’m also glad I did the top 3 voting system, which added a level of depth to the contest. While I consider the contest a success, I am disappointed in the number of submitters and the number of voters. Most of my disappointment comes from ACL, since not many ACL members did much with the contest. ACU also lacked a little bit mainly in voters, but not nearly as much as ACL did, no offense. Without ACU, there wouldn’t be much of a contest. ACU had all the designs except for the V-VD division and 1 design each in the 4-FA and 3-LR divisions (I count myself as ACU, since I feel more at home there), not to mention most of the contest’s support came from there. They even had streams for MOA and FA so that some of the people who didn’t have the game could submit a design.

 

As far as the divisions go, I feel that there was a trend with MOA being the strongest and as it moved towards VD, it got steadily weaker. MOA had great designs that made it difficult to vote on. AA also had solid designs, though I don’t feel they were as good as MOA. LR had a mix of good to bad designs, while FA had good designs but nothing that really impressed me. VD just had ok designs, nothing leaving me impressed. I feel that all categories have what is necessary to make great designs aesthetically, but it’s another thing to actually make an aesthetically pleasing bat.

 

Now, I have a question. Is this contest something you would like to see be done again, perhaps next year?

Seeing that each division had five to eight designers, I'm not sure how I feel about a limit of one design per person anymore. Originally it's definitely something I would have got behind, but now I kind of feel like it's a restriction I'd rather just impose on myself.

 

Turnout was a bit disappointing, but it was still fun and a good talking point on both the boards and in chat. I'd probably be ready for another one whenever the picture takers were.

 

Also, I gotta say thanks to everyone in chat that helped on I am Canada, and Niji for streaming. I knew nothing about the parts in fA, but between chat and the wiki, we came up with something that seems decently liked. It's actually one of my favourites in the contest.

Thanks for the contest again, Drac.

 

I think MoA had the most diverse builds, and judging from the votes I'd agree it had the strongest competition.

 

One design per person would only work if there were a larger turnout of contributors. As for when we should hold another one, preferably sometime before a new game is released. Hopefully by then I would have beaten more games and can send something in as well.

Nice work everyone, and thanks Drac for hosting this. Nice work Keanu for nabbing 2nd place in MoA didn't see that coming!

 

I'd be up for another ACDC whenever it comes around, I've already come up with a handful of ideas and I'd be planning on submitting at least twice as many designs in the various categories. Also I'd like it to be kept at two entries. This contest proved how diverse peoples tastes are, allowing two submissions will enable designers to flesh out there ideas and approach designing in different ways. The format also allows for a solid entry turnout.

 

All in all the contest was a lot of fun.

As far as contest deadlines, you should be as punctual as possible. Two submissions should be kept. Three or more is too many and one is like sudden death. Plenty of fun though and It was a great idea. Gotta keep it going.
