Pilto Name: Collateral

AC Name: Shellshock

Arena Rank: 42

A hotshot pilot who builds his playstyle around finishing off his opponent as quick as he can. Although he’s seen a rapid rise through the lower ranks of the arena, he seems to have stonewalled as of late, and can’t seem to figure out why he keeps running out of ammo against some of the more skilled pilots. Many have offered him advice to better his playstyle and AC layout, but he stubbornly refuses their words, keen on his battle philosophy being the one ultimate truth. Nevertheless, he remains a daunting gatekeeper to those newer pilots who wish to climb their way to the top. Some say he's the descendant to an infamous pilot who piloted an AC with machine gun arms and thrived on crushing the hearts of rookie pilots.

http://i.imgur.com/avjPY46.png

This pilots AC is designed to emulate the tremendous power and awe-inspiring beauty of a thunderstorm. Ironically the pilot is afraid of thunderstorms due to a traumatic experience in his youth, but once he's inside the cockpit all of that changes. His AC is equipped with advanced weather tracking technology as he prefers to plan his engagements to take place in stormy conditions. Those who have come across Supercell in combat tend to describe their encounters the same way, it's as if Supercell and the storm had become one. The ground trembles with the thunderous force of his grenade rifle, coupled with the immense power of the LX cannon as it tears through the air like lightning. Supercell is truly a destructive force that lives up to his name.

1 alabaster

kinda looks like a spaceman prepared to fly to space and live out his dreams of being one of them space gundams but we all know that gundam is trash. neat paint but overall the robit itself is too plain

2 funfetti frosting

i aint never eaten no funfetti lookin like that so im pretty sure youre a terrible baker

3 tron

i think this bot looks like complete ass cuz the neon doesnt translate at all it just looks like a fanfic pokemon or some shit. its kinda like the guy who made this just saw those back radars and thought of tron and then tried to shoehorn a bot just to fit that shred of a concept. when the fk was tron copper too wat is dis

4 the man of the hour

i bet it took an hour spammin the random paint generator to get somethin like this and thus the name. twat.

5 botermelon

WHO PUT BOTER IN MY MELON. this is prob the first top contender in the 3rd gen because of its colors and part geometry. i can imagine a canteloupe-watermelon hybrid thats been armor plated and grown like them freaky square japanese fruits. great matching on the head and the extensions. i dont feel like the colors go well together but the coloring was executed pretty well and it makes it interesting as far as paintjobs go. the different color scheme order in the arms reminds me of that one ac in a previous contest i think it was called skidmark. whoever made that one probably made this one.

6 RWU

while the paint reeeeaaallly leaves something to be desired, it was aimed in the right direction for the frame choice and the frame looks pretty neat overall. its almost there but its also pretty easy to not give a single shit about this bat

7 (GOOGLE SAYS ITS NAMED POTATO TRACTOR)

looks like a cheap ass potato robit made in cheap ass potato land, especially since its made of lackluster starter parts and basic tank legs. really reminds me of shitty russian industrial construction, like their shitty ass 3 wheeled cars and shit. fits the theme it was goin for pretty well id say, even if the bot itself isnt terribly interesting. the paint fits the theme pretty good as well, as it looks both like a tractor and some sort of USSR propaganda tank. also cant lock on to anything with those weapons, which i imagine they shoot potatoes instead of rockets. YOU WANT EM BAKED, FRENCH FRIED, OR BOILED? TOO BAD, Картофель существуют только во сне!

8 winters

this bot seems pretty fkn lackluster to me, mostly because of the odd frame and color choice. the top half of the frame works great, but i dont think those legs work out at all even if shape contrast was what the designer was goin for. the muted purple is also rly gross when paired with the other colors of the ac. i could see this as a shitty ranked ai ac from a phone game or something

9 breaking point

it looks like this ac wants to go to space even more than the first ac but this one wants to be part of the NASA program instead of those weeb lord gundam losers. the colors are pretty well executed but as a whole, theyre pretty boring. its just white and gray with some color accents and no real concept behind it to back up why its so plain. if an ac is called breaking point, itd better be pushin crazy ass paint or design ideas and not be something so lackluster

10 resin

i mean, cool, and stuff, but like stop tryin to make SL work like that. i appreciate that the howitzer fits with the rest of the ac (probably because the ac was made around the howitzer) and that youre using sl for hover legs, but im pretty fkn sure that those hover legs in LR dont care if theyre kneeling or not and the bot wouldve been fine with different back units and left arm. wuda been great to see the other hover legs used to avoid the kneeling position that lr forces, but whatever dude. also nice touch with the emblem choice to add that small detail of color to the robit, which is hardly seen anywhere else and definitely could have been pushed farther.

11 lennoki

google be tellin me that dis is some sorta swedish plane toy or somethin and i guess maybe the hover legs remind me of that, but like nothign else fits. also the hover legs are kneeling so the concept is lost even more. if i ignore the poor name choice then the robit is like ok but still pretty boring. theres no appreciation for subtlety to pull the simplicity through, its really just a simplistic green paint job. back weapon choices came outta left field and the arm choices are whatever. the frame is well made but those parts practically picked themselves with how similar they are in geometry, so no real compliments there. if i had to pick one thing i liked about the frame choice, its how well the shoulders go together with the circular hover leg vents while also fitting the round geometry of everything else.

12 oddball

first thing i noticed was that this ac looks like a hyperion gun but its not named after a hyperion gun and not borderlands related at all, its named after that ball back unit which cuda been on any ac. at least it looks like a 1 or a 9 ball and the name sorta fits but whatever. name aside, the frame is pretty fkn strong on this ac and it does a great job of pulling off the heavy quad look. a lot of the part choices like the head and the shoulders add to the shortness and wideness to the ac which makes it look heavier, while the weapons sorta complement each other except for that uniball thing back there (although the cerb back cannon sorta breaks up the wideness too much even if it does match the ettin). the way the paint was execuded works great too since the shoulders match up well with the crotch and the paint in the arms matches the accents on the shoulders, which also adds some detail and variety to the green and yellow.

13 collateral

if this were a school test or something, itd be like the dude filled out the first half of the test perfectly but then forgot to check if there was a back side to the test and got an F as a result. the top half works wonderfully well with all them barrels and shit poking everywhere (reminds me of pantokrator especially with the extension units), but the legs do almost nothing to complement the ac. i can think of like 4 leg choices that would really pull this ac through and those are nowhere near close. the description is cute but it doesnt add anything to the concept of the frame and stuff, it just provides a small backstory or whatever. i dont think theres too much of an issue with the paint since it makes the other parts feel more at home, but i dont think it wouldve been a problem to see a touch more variety to it

15 supercell

probably one of the strongest bats in the contest. the colors are interesting and highlight certain details very well, the frame is well made and has an unexpected part choice, the concept and the story all work well (even if it was "inspired" from the few ai acs that use that back weapon in ac3 and aclr). its not often i see those hover legs used to great effect, even though ive always liked how they looked since theyre kind of awkward to design around. i especially like how well the paint complements the grenade launcher. but yeah i think theres not much else to say about this bat other than its rad.

1st: [#7] Potato Tractor

2nd: [#15] Supercell

3rd: [#12] Oddball

Alabaster

It's weeb as shit but super clean. The frame is rad and I like that the urge to add more shit was resisted. The sea green or whatever the hell that colour is doesn't fit. The second pic is rad as all get up.

Funfetti Frosting

Junk food gives me a headache, and so does this.

Tron

It's actually pretty bad as a themed bot, and just okay as a regular bot. As far as being Tron related goes, the colours don't have enough pop, and there's simply too much going on. Solid frame choice overall, though I think there are other leg options that would have worked better. I like the radars and how they're incorporated to the paint on the arms.

The Man of the Hour

Not feeling the leg choice, but other than that the weapon/frame portion is cool. I'm not feeling those colours at all though. I mean, maybe I'd do that type of palette in my living room, but not on a bot.

Botermelon

It's really square and fruity and I dig it. Cool colour distribution all around.

RWU

Not feeling the head choice but the rest works. The paint is super simple but does a good job of letting certain details in the parts shine through. I like it but it probably won't stick with me.

Potato Tractor

Hahahahaha. What a cheap looking piece of shit. Pretty cool.

Winters

Parts of this really work for me. I like the way those legs transition to the core, and I'm almost always a fan of that head. Something about the extensions has me digging them, and the back weapons probably could have been incorporated really well. The arms and colouration just aren't for me. This is one of the more interesting bots in the division to me simply because I think there's some really cool ideas in there.

Breaking Point

I feel like there's enough good ideas here for two really sick bots, but that it's too much having them all shoved into one. As it is, I'm seeing the top half of the frame plus the GORGON and the extensions as part of one bot, and the legs plus the other weapons as part of another. It lacks cohesiveness for me.

Resin

It's neat enough. The way the legs and extensions play off of each other is the best part of the bot. The front tips of the legs work nicely with the back weapons, too.

Lennokki

That core/arm combo is rad I'm stealing that. W/E to the rest of the bot it's green looks fine good job.

Oddball

Looked kind of like a mess to me at first, but then I kind of got a heavy assault Tachikoma vibe from it and that works for me. Even without that, I was digging the paint and most of the frame, but probably would've criticized the head choice.

Collateral

90% rad. Leg choice completely fucks it up for me. Whatever the reason they were chosen, they just aren't working for me. Man that top half is so good though.

RNGesus 3

It almost worked. The frame is goofy but in a good way, and if it weren't for the colours I'd probably really like this. I'm happy that the RNG bots exist.

Supercell

Left arm gun aside, this bot is pretty damn cool. Great use of those legs. They're weird and kind of need to be designed around, but they also do a good job of avoiding the way LR parks hovers. Overall it makes me think of a futuristic racer, and it would fit really well in a more technologically advanced Mad Max setting.

1st- #9 Breaking Point

2nd- #12 Oddball

3rd- #5 Botermelon

Alabaster:

This is a very gundam looking AC, or to be more specific, something more along the lines of a GM or GM Sniper. The Longhorn head with its v-antennae helps ground this idea, while the white-focused paint-job and single arm gun helps reinforce it. I like the balance of its frame overall, and the mix matching of the different part geometries. The rounded Gaea works to counterbalance the rigid legs, and the arms have both rigid and rounded characteristics within their geometry. The valuae of white on the back units and arm gun nicely match the frame-coloring job, and the red details on the legs are a nice touch to look at. I’m not as keen on the balance of the yellow and geren, as I feel they’re spread around the entireity of the frame too liberally. I think the AC would have more dynamism to it if perhaps say the core was a little more colored, and the legs were a little less colored—but that’s probabbly the gundam in me coming out. This AC was just outside of my top 3 contension.

Funfetti Frosting:

I actually somewhat like the upper part to the frame, but the familiarity with the legs pushes me away. The legs are very Christmasy in their look and color, and don’t complement the top half very well. There might be actual Christmas themed funfetti, but the idea here doesn’t mesh well. What this also looks like is perhaps a new holiday themed cupcake on the bottom, with an old, moldy cupcake on the top. Either way, with a bot that's so abstract, seeing a more recognizable and easily identifiable portion of the frame throws me off somewhat.

Tron:

I like the frame on this one, everything’s rounded and sleek looking, whether it’s the subdued evil stare of the head, or the joints on the legs that emphasize circular patterns. The arms also find a nice way of mirroring the paint of the back radars as well. I also like that the base color of the frame isn’t entirely black, and more of a very dark blue-green. It’s the same principle in painting where you’d never want to have a pure-black background, as it’s too cold and clinical compared to something that actually has color in it. In this case, the dark green base color serves as a foundation for the lighter blue trim paint. The pale-green joint color of the core and legs is throwing me off somewhat, but at the same time is neutral enough to not cause any glaring distractions. Overall I think this is a very sleek looking AC. Perhaps the name could be changed to something else, as it isn’t entirely emulating the Tron look, but nonetheless it looks mechanical yet sleek, and luminescent.

The Man Of The Hour:

The first thing that struck me about this AC was its paint job, and that it loks very similar to some sort of pre-designed paint job the game gives you when you hit random generate. Perhaps the designer of this AC did the same thing until he found something decent, and then changed the weapon colors to compliment. Each indivudual frame part here has lots of specific details and intricacies that make them interesting, but I’m not sure how I feel about the conglomerate whole. The head, core, and arms all have an sleek, alien look to them, but the legs come off as rudimentary and industrial. The mixing of the different aesthetics could work, but perhaps a change in the core or arms would make the frames mesh better. The arm weapon goes decent enougoh with the aesthetic, but I’m also not a fan of the symmetrical back units here. I wish there’d be more experimentation with the back units and if they could help reinforce the idea of assymetry with the arm weapons.

Botermelon:

In a division with lots of sub-par entrants, I find this AC calmly solid. There’s no overwhelmingly strong aspect that sticks out about it, but at the same time it’s so fundamentally well put together. The frame parts are balancd looking and geometrically match to be come a seamless cohesive whole. The coloring on the weapons match the tropical colors of the frame, and further reinforce the rigid and boxy aesthetic. The selections of the frame parts themselves are the strongest aspect of this AC I feel, as they all upscale very well, and have detailed and appealing textures to them—one specific example would be the mirroring of the diamond plating on the legs and core. I actually feel this AC is more interesting to look at from the back than the front, as the rear of the frame parts showcase all kinds of detailings and inner-workings of the frame parts, which are further revealed by the contrasting tropical colors.

RWU:

I feel as if in the process of building this AC, the designer got off to a good start. The frame is interesting to look at. There’s something appealing about just how shrugged the shoulders are compared to the core, and the rigidness of the legs complements the core well as well. The bulkiness of the arm weapon works farily well in balancing out the visual weight from top to bottom. Where I feel this starts falling apart is in the back weapon choices, and especially the paint. While there’s nothing fundamentally wrong about mathcing back weapons, and a white/red paint job, the distinct mismatch of yellow detailing on the back cannons compared to the red frame sticks out like a sore thumb on an otherwise solid entrant. The paint scheme itself comes off as very plain, and there’s much uncharted ground that could be explored to make this AC something very appealing.

Potatoes Is The Tractor:

The ideas behind this AC are stronger than the actual look I feel. I like that it’s composed of mostly the chepeast parts in the game, and it’s not even strong enough of a bot to have auto-aiming weapons, relying on only rockets and other rudimentary means. The paint job is equally rudimentary. At first glance it looks like a plain red paint job that’s slowly rusting and weathering away, with the pilot being too cheap to repaint the frame. The underlying idea and basic execution of the AC is solid, but the aesthetic comes off as plain to me. I wish the paint job in particular had another shade or hue of red to compliment its two-tone coloring, and I would have wanted to see some experimientation with painting different frame parts differently, to better convey the natural weathering process of the paint, where perhaps certain areas have seen more abuse than others, etc.

Winters:

The frame and coloring are real appealing to my eyes, and I particularly like the rigidness of the front of the core and how it plays with the rigidness of the guns. The front of the core is multi-leveled with a separation, just as the guns are as well. The legs are somewhat thin and rounded in comparison, but work pretty well regardless due to their angular appearance. What doesn’t work for me on this AC is the choice of weapons; in fact I feel as if it might have been better with no weapons at all. The frame and paint are strong enoguh, that the weapons don’t really add anything, and in the instance of the etensions, I feel as if they slightly detract from the overall look, because their hue of blue is slightly off compared to the frame.

Breaking Point:

This entrant is so cohesive and well put together that it almost manages to transcend the look of an AC. I think Nob’s description is leaning in the right direction with regards to a NASA program or the like. This AC looks like it was made to do some kind of interstellar exploration or the like. Aesthetically, all the parts mesh well with a rigid and industrial look, with the right amount of gray and red trim on the paint to give it an interesting appeal. The gray stripe on top of the core and how it manages to mirror the gray stripe on top of the left arm gun is one such example. The orange detail in the right gun is beautifully mirrored in the leg details, rocket details, and extension details. I almost wish is if there were more orange with the eye detail as well. The unrivaled attention to detail in this AC, plus its subtle and involving paint job makes this my favorite of the 3rd generation.

Resin:

I’m struggling to find much to talk about with this AC. I almost feel as if it’s rocking a howitzer just to rock a howitzer so it could be used in Silent Line. The weapons and frame all have different hues and values of blue-gray, which give it a cold and unwelcoming look, while the emblem choice doesn’t add much either—even if the details of the frame were made to match its color or not. On one hand, those back units look quite interesting when they’re tilted forward as they are on hover legs or the like, and the texture and detailing on the sides of the arms is nice to look at, but I feel as if a change to the legs, arm weapons, and perhaps the core would suit the AC better, as well as adding some vibrance and perhaps some warmth to the paint job.

Lennokki:

This AC appeals to me more each time I look at it. It has good traits that aren’t too dissimmiliar from Akimbo Avylen that was a fan favorite not too long ago. The first angle is rather average, but the second angle shows off some interesting qualities: mainly tops of the legs when they’re folded down and how the guns on the side of the core mirror those details, and the symmetry of the weaponry. Seeing the stout shoulders blossom out from the core and beyond the legs is neat too. Of course the repition of the circular patterns from the ends of the shoulders and on top of the legs must be mentioned as well. I think the dark paint scheme serves this AC really well, but I wish there were more subtle differences within its simplistic choice of color—something more like Collateral, where there are multiple hues of green.

Oddball:

The sheer bulk and intimidating presence of this quad juggernaut struck my fancy very quickly. It reminds me of DAD from a while back, and perhaps it was made by the same pilot trying to utilize many of the same design principles as an easy cheat to victory. The ettin is shown in full glory again, and the back cannon repeats its two-prong aesthetic. I also think it was a great choice to use the Ogre instead of the Ettin on the right arm, to give it a more commando like look with a different weapon for different scenarios type of appeal. The legs and arms are nice and rugged, but the core is especially appealing with its rock-hard appearance. The only thing troubling me here is the choice of head. The eyes of the head do somewhat mesh with the shoulders and orbital cannon, but I feel as if a lack of a head with a bulky and intimidating look is only limiting the overall idea of the AC. DAD was great because its head had a very mean stare. The paint is somewhat boring and two-toned, but strategic coloring of the core to differntiate it from the legs helps mitigate any potential painting issues.

Collateral:

All the rocket barrels on the top half of this AC look awesome, and the 2nd angle does a good job of showing their chaotic spread. I feel the legs fit well for the AC’s design and ideal. The pilot wants to finish his opponents off as fast as he can, so he chooses the most minimal and lightest head and leg parts. The result is an AC that not only looks and feels fast, but also one that puts all its emphasis on the barrels of the guns. The thin nature of the legs also meshes well with the thin nature of the lower part of the core, which keeps the eye fixated on the rocket barrels of the design. The paint job shows a nice mixture of different hues and values of green, providing a subtle and elegant monotone paint that’s both pleasing to look at yet not overburdened and too busy at the same time. Parts of the frame are strategically darker in nature than the barrels and guns to bring visual emphasis to them. Overall this is a very cool design to look at.

RNGesus 3: Last Roll:

The one thing this randomly generated bot has going for it is that the geometry of the fronts of the arm and core play off each other in an element of repition, while the rigidness of the legs nad head do a decent job of reinforcing that idea. That paint isn’t entirely bad, but it has randomly generated screaming all over it as well. Too bad there’s weapons on it, because I feel the weapons do nothing for it—if not even detract from it.

Supercell:

I can understand some of the appeal behind this AC, and there are parts about it that I enjoy immensely. The coolish, super dark blue on the core does a good job of mimicking thunderous clouds full of rain, while the light blue highlights serve to emulate lighter parts of the sky—or pehaps even segments of clouds that are light blue-green with hail in them. The dark red trim on the legs is nice to look at as well, but kind of doesn’t go with the red detailing on the arms and head. The weapons don’t do much for me, and I don’t find the head a great match, but what appeals to me the most is the detailing of the innards on the sides of the legs. With the kickstands and the somewhat steampunky inner-workings of the legs, it almost reminds me of a Star Wars-esque speeder that you’d see from one of the Original Movies like A New Hope. I can almost see Luke on top of it now, driving it through a barren desert landscape. I think it’d be cool to expiriment with this idea further and find other parts with very mechanical looks to them, to see how much you can push that look. That’s another idea for another time however. The look here is accomplished well enough.

This bot really pulls through with a loud display of geometry, bulk and a bristling arsenal. It is a fun and exciting bot to look at, I often find LR designs to be kind of tame when compared to 1st and 2nd gens due to the parts textures and proportions (that's another subject I kind of touched on in "whats your fav design gen thread"), but this bot does a very good job of breaking free of that and bringing something fun and distinguished to the gen 3 table. The weapons are excellent all jutting out, the extensions compliment them well, and the orbit unit does well to compliment the frame and color scheme. The really love the choice of colors on this bot, and there placement choices on the frame. Part choices for the frame are perfect all having similar geometry and bulk, I like the head as it doesn't stick out to take away from the mass of the body, LR heads are kind of big. A very solid bot.

2nd: #3 Tron

An immediate eye catcher that I knew had to go in my top 3. The design is simple and effective and does not have any outright noticeable flaws or shortcomings. My favorite aspect of the design would have to be the arms and back radars. on a side note I've never noticed those horizontal lines across the wings of the radars before, those look pretty cool. The blue glow on the radar sets the mood and carries on through the arms which feature a pretty neat luminescent effect on the sides. The orange is interesting, it keeps it fresh. The frame choices are solid. Overall its a solid execution but its simplicity keeps it from getting my 1st place vote.

3rd: #1 Alabaster

Someone went ahead and unleashed their inner wabo with this bot, and I'm glad they did. What grabs me like others have mentioned is the Gundam look. I love the head, it adds tons of character and fits the overall design. I definitely feel it features a very strong and cohesive paint scheme that brings everything together yet distinguishes itself with lots of flavor. The shoulder boosters really add a lot and mesh with the frame parts. The left arm laser rifle matches very well and work great with the legs. I can also appreciate the exclusion of a right arm weapon, it maintains a great overall balance and focus on the laser rifle, a right arm weapon would have completely changed things up. A very fun and cool design.

I like how this design looks full of speed and power, but this AC looks a bit overweight in actuality.

I really liked the paint scheme on this one. The frame and weapon loadout have a nice simplicity as well.

3rd: #3 -- Tron

The paint scheme on this bot kinda reminds me of something from Tron. I loved the paint job nonetheless (I'm ripping it to use on my bots) and the sleek design.
