This Rating, Review, and General Discussion topic is focused on Armored Core: Last Raven.

-------------------------

To help add a touch of personalization to the ACU Wiki articles covering each AC game, I have decided to add a section in their infoboxes that showcases what the ACU community feels about each game. This section is a rating of the games quality and approval by the ACU community and it is titled "ACU Rating". This rating is based off of a five point scale, ranging from one (a horrible game) to five (an incredible game). Only votes cast using the poll will be counted towards the Wiki's rating system. I will periodically check these topics and update the ACU Rating section for each game. The rating for a game will be the average of all of the votes cast for that game, rounded to the nearest integer.

The other important feature of this topic is to give us a source for the content that will go on each games main article page. This means everyone should write some form of review for whatever part of the game in question they feel like writing for. Even a few sentences giving your view on the games mechanics, story, or part balance can be highly helpful. We need as many viewpoints as possible to help insure the articles accurately reflect community views on the AC games. Also, this helps give us extra material to work with when filling in the main article pages for the AC games.

Of course, you're free to rate and review the games on whatever categories you can think of. If you can't think of anything, I have provided a list at the bottom of this post that can help you with picking things to rate the games on. There are quite a few categories to pick from. You do not have to rate the games using all of these categories, though.

You're free to be as biased as you like and discussion of the AC game in question is highly encouraged.

Difficulty: Very nice, some of the AIs can even fight back 5/5

Default controls: Haven't had an issue yet 5/5

Mechanics: not many real issues 5/5

New Features: I can shoot my opponents head off... SWEET! I love the parts and the remade parts are a nice touch 5/5

Bugs + Glitches: I haven't encountered any 5/5

Story: There are six of them, I like the variety 5/5

Mission Quality: Some are easy while others are incredibly difficult. 5/5

Arena: Could be better, The VR arena was sad once you figured out how to get behind the overly aggressive computer and the extra arena had a similar issue although a few could fight back 3/5

Part Balance: Nice, for what is truly over powered there are bans 5/5

part Diversity: There is a huge selection, huge 5/5

Video and Art: Much better than its predecessors 4/5

Graphics: Very nice, ACs look cool and can be blocky or smooth 5/5

Voice Acting: I think they used more than one person, but its nothing special 3/5

Music: Not bad, it was different too 4/5

Multiplayer: My experience here is limited to split screen but that was very nice 5/5

Overall 5/5 Nearly on Par with AC2, the only reason its not is because PLUS isn't obtainable in game. That limits the ACs you can build and some of the light cannons beg to be used on bipedal ACs.

  • Overall Difficulty-----------------------4/5 (because NEXUS was harder than LR)
  • Default Controls-----------------------5/5 (didn't have any problem with this)
  • Mechanics----------------------------5/5 (good and easy to set something)
  • New Features-------------------------5/5 (make retro parts and remade, that's what I like about)
  • Bugs + Glitches-----------------------5/5 (never found any bugs before)
  • Story---------------------------------5/5 (because we gotta do all things in 24 hours)
  • Mission Quality (Single Player)----------5/5 (more different missions)
  • Arena (If Applicable)-------------------4/5 (some of AIs are easy to fight. but sometimes, same AI would be better than before)
  • Part Balance--------------------------5/5 (re-balanced from ACNX, that's the one of many things that FROM did it right)
  • Part Diversity-------------------------5/5 (we can made a million designs with these)
  • CG Art + Video------------------------3/5 (again, NX did it better than LR)
  • Graphics------------------------------4/5 (same as AC3, AC3SL, NX, NB...but still nice)
  • Voice Acting--------------------------4/5 (nothing new but sounds more serious)
  • Sounds-------------------------------4/5 (for PULVERLIZER sound and part break sound)
  • Music---------------------------------5/5 (for 5 point five, six....etc.)
  • Multiplayer----------------------------4/5 (just split-screen, nothing much but still nice)

so, I'll give 5/5 for this.

I'd give this a 5/5.

The game gave me what Silent Line didn't; a challenge. Every mission I had to be careful of what to put on my AC, and every time it gave me a run for my money. The branching storyline was different from the usual, which I liked. The music was slightly subpar, but in the end, it was a great way to cap off the PS2 AC era.

Presentation - 3/5

Moody music and cold, no-nonsense voice acting create a serious tone that isn't for everyone. I personally loved it. The graphics are the best among Armored Core titles for PS2, and while it looks great, the PS2 offers better graphics in titles that are older than this one, and there is a bit of frame loss during intense moments. All in all it is a well executed work of art, but not everyone is going to see it as special, and the FMV's are very misleading.

Interface - 4/5

Customizable controls, simple menus that reveal extremely deep mechanics, fast paced shooter action, and a ridiculously customizable main character (your AC) combine to offer an experience that is rare outside of the Armored Core series. Last Raven's interactive experience, from it's difficult missions to it's huge arsenal of murderbot body parts conclude the lifespan of the PS2 with a service to the fans of Armored Core in nearly every way. I even agree with the exclusion of Human Plus, this title calls to the hard core, number-crunching AC pilots out there.

Replay Value - 5/5

Multiple endings and the coolest customizable virtual robot action figure on PS2, which allows you to put fresh spins on old challenges, makes this a game I've regularly revisited for the last seven years, and as the PCSX2 emulator improves little bit at a time on a weekly basis, I don't expect to be putting it down permanently.

Overall - 4/5

This is one of my favorite games of all time, but instead of giving it a perfect score, I can't overlook the game's flaws. It suffers from frame loss and has a mood that isn't for everyone, and most would see it as nothing special at worst. It recieved scathing reviews in most publications, because the mainstream world tends to lean toward games like Flappy Bird, "Same But Different Assault Rifle FPS" or "World War Two in a Shoebox" shooters. Armored Core: Last Raven is a hard-core gamer's game, and it takes a certain sense of taste to fully appreciate it. The challenge can be frustrating for those unable to do relatively simple math, and deep games like this one are easy for casual gamers to drown in.
