    Street Fighter V

Over the weekend, I played at my local Fight Club. The reception for this game was very positive. It seems that all this crowd wants is an online mode, versus mode, and training mode. All the characters were used. Incidentally, I was the only Ken and second Karin. So we have a pretty diverse field. This reactions seems to be a stark contrast to the general consumer. I think Capcom nailed it for the hardcore, but completely missed their mark for the average consumer, which, should frankly be angry at an unfinished product sold at full price. This was a major concern for us because casuals help grow the scene and watch twitch gameplay. Over all, I am loving this game.

    Street Fighter V

Just got SFV. The game is fun. I will dabble with all the characters, but like all SF games, I'd probably main Ken. ST = O.Ken (with N.Dhalsim secondary vs. O.Sagat) A2 = Ken A3 = V-Karin (because Ken sucked, and Karin was cool/fresh/strong) 3S = Ken SA3 CvS2 = C-Cammy / Ken / Chun-R2 So at least I am consistent. I skipped SF4 for the most part because I didn't like the Ultra mechanic, Option Selects that covers three or more scenarios, crouch tech, and FADC. SF4 felt more like an arms race. I felt like I am playing against the tech, not the player. Sometimes, when I get punished, I am not sure if I punished due to good reads or an option select. This is a shame because the idea of Yomi, “reading the mind of the opponent”, is my favorite aspect of Street Fighter. John Choi, one of my favorite fighters, talked about this topic a bit: Though, as a spectator, I enjoyed USF4 quite a bit. SFV is pretty fun so far, but I need to put more reps in to have any meaningful insight. My SFV name is EltonW.
  3. In alphabetical order: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PS3) - The only FPS I actually really like. I tried playing other COD games, but I always return back to this one. I played this game from launch to well into 2013. It may be a simple game, especially compared the later iterations, but everything about this game is very smooth and clean. The Search and Destroy mode is what keeps me coming back for more. There is no feeling like being the last person standing and still win the game. However, S&D is less fun in the later games because of the added gadgets and perks, which actually, IMO, decreased the strategy involved in the game. If I am not playing S&D, I would play Team Death Match and Domination. In both game modes, I love to use the Deep Impact perk to kill dudes behind walls. I got good enough that sometimes I just shoot at a wall because I think someone is behind it, and kill them. This always brings a smile to my face. Seriously, everyone hides at the same spots. It is like clockwork. Dark Souls (PS3) - Needs no intro. We all love this game. It, by far, has the best world design I ever played. Fallout: New Vegas (PS3) - Glitchy as hell on the PS3 but still loads of fun. It has tons of very interesting characters to interact with. The setting is great, especially the music, which partly made the game for me. Journey (PS3) - One of the most unique experiences I ever had in a video game. It was mind blowing. A very beautiful game. Pokémon Red and Blue (GB) - Charizard was my spirit animal. The game was a lot of fun against friends. This and Magic: The Gathering was basically my recess experience in my childhood, and it was grand. Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - In this game, you kill 16 Colossi. It felt wrong killing them, as it was very personal and that they posed no threat to humanity. There were no waves of enemies you have to fight through. There were no traps or hoops you have to jump through. It was just you and the Colossi. The game was very beautiful. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (PS2) - Mike introduced me to this game two years. I had to buy a used PS2 to play this game because he said it's one of the greats, and also because I was getting back into LR. Fuck LR, this game MADE my PS2 purchase. It has the best storytelling I have ever experienced playing a video game. Because of this game, Persona 4 is now in my radar. Silent Line: Armored Core (PS2) - The most fun I had playing AC. This is also when my community was at its competitive peak. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike ver. B (Arcade) - My favorite Street Fighter game by far. The parry mechanic is one of my favorite mechanics in Street Fighter because it is the great equalizer. It evens out a lot of the lower tier character match-ups to stand a chance against the top tier characters. It punishes predictability and rewards consistency. This game also has a ton of depth. Even now, in 2015, I look at new footages from Japan, and am still learning new tech. I think Street Fighter IV tried to emulate the parry mechanic with focus attacks. But unfortunately, not all characters can use the focus attack to its full advantage like the parry mechanic did. Super Mario World (SNES) - This was my intro to video gaming, back when I was like three years old. I still remember playing this game. It was my early childhood. I loved this game. Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC) - I loved Smash Bros for the N64. This game basically added more characters and perfected the mechanics of the original game. Super Street Fighter II Turbo (Arcade) - My intro to fighting games at the Chinatown Fair (RIP). It breaks down Street Fighter to the fundamentals. This game is not about flash. It is an easy game to pick up and very hard to master. The execution in this game is also very tight, meaning skill with the joystick mattered. Sometimes, it is good to go back to basics. The Last of Us Remastered (PS4) - I played it and loved the game on PS3. The storytelling and setting is top notch. It is also the best looking game on the PS3. I also loved the multiplayer. This is the prime reason why I bought it again for the PS4, for the multiplayer, because it is very much an extension of the single player experience, which was incredible. But man, after replaying the single player on the PS4, the difference between the Remastered version and the original is like night and day. I was even more immersed to the game than I did originally. I never actually got around to play the multiplayer on the PS4, because the semester was about to begin, and I don’t play video games while at school. Tokyo Jungle (PS3) - This game is incredible. PRIME. FEMALES. ONLY. Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) - The story, art, and gameplay of this game is just incredible. A hidden gem for Western gamers for sure, which is a shame. Gathered from this list, if the video game begins with the letter S, I'd probably like it. If it starts with Super, doubly so.
  4. I started but didn't finish.

    Bloodborne

Tenchu 1, 2, and Wrath of Heaven are fantastic games. Wrath of Heaven had a really fun deathmatch mode too. Fatal Shadows was trash. I never played any of their other ninja games.

    Dark Souls II

That's because DS3 has no native drivers on the PC platform, and all the open-source drivers suck. Just buy a 360 controller. You may have more luck with the PS4 controller too.

    Dark Souls II

You can cap at SL120 with four levels to spare. Praise the sun! What the fuck?

    Dark Souls

Firesurge is a killer, especially with Crown of Dusk + Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring. So many have died trying to poise stab me, and my Firesurge + Crown + BDCR just kills them in like 5 secs. This is my favorite build, actually: http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?b=cHlyb21hbmNlciw1MCwyMyw0MCwxNCw0NSwxMiwxNiw4LDk5LDIzLDMwLDM0LDMxLDMxLDE0LDExOCw0NywxMTQsMCxub3JtYWwsbm9ybWFsLG5vcm1hbCxub3JtYWwsMCwzMywzOCwzMCw2OSwyMSwwLDAsMCwwLDAsMCwwLDksd29vZGVuLHdvb2Rlbix3b29kZW4sd29vZGVuLDEsMCww The idea is to pressure with Firesurge and mixup with Chaos Great Fireball. When my Chaos Great Fireball does hit in CQC, I can quickswap to Great Combustion for a killer combo. With 45 Dex, if I hit my opponent with Great Combustion and they are staggered (out of poise), I can walk up a little and do another Great Combustion. Rinse and repeat until they are dead or you are out of Great Combustions. Dark Bead + Crown + BDCR + OIC @ 16 INT can, surprisingly, deal over 1000 damage pretty consistently in CQC. I don't know if FROM has patched Dark Bead yet, but it was pretty broken. The 16 INT is totally worth it just for that spell on a Pyro mage. Since I am going for 16 INT anyways, I may as well use GMW for extra damage.

    Bayonetta 2

Yeah, I am glad you liked it. A lot of people did. I just thought it was a step back from Melee. I was not excited for any of the other Wii games either.

    Bayonetta 2

I bought a Wii for Brawl but I was so disappointed that I sold it back several months later. Not going to do that again.

    Bayonetta 2

Yeah, Bayo is fkn' rad. The action is Gurren Lagann level crazy.
