  1. Yep it is entirely possible to pull off the strategy that you are hoping for. And from what I can tell the lag is much much better
  2. Scan mode allows you to gain information on your opponents. You can scan them to find out their defensive weaknesses, their weapons, how much damage your weapons will deal to them, etc. Recon Units notify you of enemies in the unit's radius. When an enemy is in the range of a recon unit they can be seen through cliffs, buildings, well everything pretty much... but only in scan mode. It also allows you to scan players while they are behind obstacles. Scan mode also functions as a way to recharge your energy much faster by shutting off certain parts so they do not cost EN Drain. If you are a smart enough player you can stay out of the line of sight of players using recon and scan mode. You can also use Recon Jammers to help mask your location. Just keep in mind that most players will be able to see you through objects so you have to figure out whether or not they have spotted you. Also keep in mind that a full team of five will have an operator watching everything so if you aren't careful an operator could warn players to you sneaking up on them.
  3. No need for a good job... I know a ton of people not in japan want to see gameplay so I tried to help out as much as I can.
  4. I'm pretty sure he was just pointing out that the loading screen was so short that he doesn't even "remember" that there is one.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/TehGodlyPerfection I have 60+ videos of gameplay on that channel and I put up more every few days. Enjoy and welcome to the ACV scene.
  6. In my opinion they need to take the Demon/Dark Souls approach to the bosses. They should be something that you can only be with true teamwork. They are "extra" missions. There is nothing wrong with extra missions being a challenge. One of the best things about boos battles of varying difficulties that go up to near impossible is the amount of dedication and time the community puts into analyzing the bosses and finding new ways to try to beat it or just do better than they did last time. Gunz: The Duel took this approach with their quests. One of the quests was practically unbeatable for years... people kept working on getting better to push farther and farther into the quest and videos were made each time they got further. Others would take the challenge thinking they could do better. The right to say that you beat something that few others have is something that a lot of players will fight for competitively and I think that is the approach they should take with the bosses. Taking down the bosses could be a great goal to strive for for newer players. And a boss beating you doesn't really hurt your ego... it is 10 times the size that you are with triple the firepower at least and over four times the AP on EACH part. You sort of expect it to crush you over and over again It just makes you want to get better to say that you took the thing down and I think that would be great for new players. It would build a sense of camaraderie among the newer players causing them to join together in the sense of the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Anyways, again I ask... other than Niji who is already getting it. Would any of the importers like to give my spreadsheet a quick test run, pre-release trial? I need more pairs of eyes trying different things with the spreadsheet to see if any of the info I have in it is blatantly incorrect or if any of the error checking can be bypassed. And by error checking I mean like when you try to equip a hanger weapon without an arm weapon.
  7. Don't get me wrong... I have nothing against RTS players. They are amazing for the things that they do and watching the pros go at it are definitely something special. I'm not saying they can't handle it... again it is just another skill that they've got to perfect that isn't exactly something they are accustomed to. Hand coordination to use those keyboard shortcuts and macros is a great skill, but matching that with spacial referencing using your eye to aim is a different thing all together. Gunz: The Duel pros have that in spades. lol...
  8. Yes they are fast, but they don't require as much hand eye coordination as Fighters/Shooters etc. The beauty of shortcuts and macros... lol
  9. Nah the live feed is in the demo... I used it a bunch during the two days we played. I love being an operator as well. I've been "training" byself by watching operator perspective videos and quickly reading stats and figuring out what weapons the guy that they are scanning has. It is pretty fun... lol. I feel like a damn nerd. Can't wait to get into this on 20th. Btw I'm looking for a couple of importers to try out the spreadsheet that I just finished up for a day or two to see if they can find any quick issues with it before I put it out for the public. Anyone want to give it a try? Just finished all the save/load/delete garage system this morning as well as error checking for if you try to equip an overed weapon with hanger weapons or if you try to put on shoulders with an arm part that can't use shoulders, etc.
  10. Except Armored Core needs a ton more piloting skill than Chromehounds does. Chromehounds is slow and very tactical so you will get the hang of the team centric features very quickly... but you've still got to learn to keep up with faster ACs and anticipate them fast enough to counter them properly. Being able to make tactical decisions under fast paced pressure is a bit different from the slower tactical side of things. Not saying that Chromehound players won't be good at Armored Core, just pointing out that there is another major skill that Chromehound players are going to have to learn. Hope you get the game and enjoy it. Best of luck to you.
  11. That's part of the reason why I'm excited to jump into the 360 scene as a lot of groups of friends already understand the importance of teamwork. The group I plan on playing with are big on the team aspect of things and several are actually extremely excited to learn to be a great operator. I'm glad we won't have too much of a shortage. I got some great operator practice in the demo, but it was no where near enough. I've learned a couple new tricks while watching videos and working on the spreadsheet has gotten me familiar with a lot of the weapons. I'm hoping to have a good majority of the weapons memorized by the time the game launches. Also found out that you can do a sort of in-depth scan on your opponents while in operator mode. It then gives you the same energy bar underneath them as your teammates do and you also get full stats on how much ammo they have remaining in each gun and how many recon units they have and what not. It is amazing how much information you get and weeding all that down and figuring out what to relay to your team is going to be a skill that will only truly grow with experience.
  12. Yeah that should happen in a dominion match. I'm talking about regular intrusion matches not dominion matches. If you lose in a dominion match you will lose your territory.
  13. Actually you may not be able to take the territory right away... I re-read the translation and it says you lose it at the end of the season if the durability is 0. Not sure who gets it at that point. http://www.armoredcore.net/players/acv/online_manual/worldmenu
  14. There are mainly two types of missions. The simple ones and the dominion ones. Dominion matches are guaranteed to be against other players and you need wager(team) points to start a dominion match in the first place. The simpler missions you just put in a gametype and go do the mission... everyone once in a while you will get intercepted by the team that ones that territory if they are waiting to do a defense mission there. Dominion matches wager points and the territory... the winners get the points and the territory. The simpler missions don't cost wager points and are used to gain wager points and whittle down territory durability. As for exactly how losing a territory and durability works I'm not completely sure. Whittling down the durability to 0 takes a little bit so you don't typically have to worry about it if you go offline for a while and refreshed its durability before you go offline. This encourages you to constantly make sure you are playing defense to keep your territories at max durability so that when you are offline they don't get taken. The more territories you have the harder it is to refresh all of them in one sitting. Your team ends up being "spread thin".
  15. Actually there is a durability system for territories. When you do regular intrusion matches (the ones where it isn't guranteed that you will fight a team) then if you complete your objective it whittles down the territories durability. If you bring it down to zero you take the territory. When you log in if any of your territories are on fire then it is close to hitting 0 durability and you need to win a defense match to refresh it to maximum. Also you do gain wager points from winning defense games and defense is actually the easier side to play so people wanting to PvP will typically chose to do it as a defensive side. This gives the people trying to take territories the chance to take it from you. Most people will want to play defense because it is easier, that is the incentive. And plus what fun is setting up custom turrets on your territories if you don't get to put them to good use? lol... Sure playing offense is hard, but it will reward the teams who are really good. If you aren't good enough it is going to be tough to take a territory.
  16. Hit me up with your gamertag and I'll get you a friend request. I've got to make room for you. And it may be a few days. I'm locked into finishing up this spreadsheet with images of all the parts to show when you hover over the name of the part.
  17. Yeah the closest you will get are Battle Rifles and Heat Cannons...
  18. Technically yes... they are KE-Resistant, but they are heavier than all of the MW arms.
  19. Actually how it works is that there is a "Shoulder Magnification" stat on Arms. If it is 0 then you get none if it is 1 then it is normal and then if it is 2 then it is doubled. There are only 5 sets of arms with double shoulders... 1 is LW (kinda LW/MW hybrid) and the other 4 are HW.
  20. You can do better than that, you don't need to crop at all... you know how you can zoom in/out on the map? I'm pretty sure you can fullscreen that camera with the same buttons. If I remember correctly you have to press down on the D-Pad with one of those cameras up.
  21. The closest way to record matches is play operator and pull up the camera on your teammates... that's the best I can think of at least and even then you can't record the opponent.
  22. Definitely not required... not until higher level play once team rivalries start surfacing. You can get away with not using a mic at all. But in the situation you stated above when you were playing operator the main difference between PS3 and Xbox is that there is a higher chance on the xbox that your team members will actually have a mic when you take an operator role or at the very least have voice coming out of their TV so they can at least follow the directions you do give. The typical regular xbox user keeps their mic in at all times when they play, but some keep their mouths shut and mics muted until someone actually breaks the silence and they feel like responding. A lot of the time once one person starts talking, most others will start talking... lol. I'm one of those people who likes to break the silence or at least brings others to talk to and invite those not talking to talk.
  23. I completely agree that you can gain teamwork from other things as well. Games are being seen as a sports-like hobby among many people now though. And in freeplay matches you will more than likely still be communicating with other people. Though sadly I think I've heard that mercenaries can't talk to the team they are working for. That may be completely wrong, but I thought I saw that somewhere. The blading community evolved heavily on the 360 due to this type of communication. Dozens of clans were built through the game's lifespan and tons of clan matches and competition was sparked among the fan base on the 360. Off topic ACFA blading sucked hard. lol...
  24. Wow Fenrawr... chill bro. I never said that 360 was the better console to play ACV on. I said that was what I preferred and I stated my reasons for supporting it. I have a huge respect for the PS3 fan base of the game as AC is a PS series by nature and obviously has a ton more support for the game. They have a huge jap fanbase as well to play against and that is great. My point is the that XBL community compared to the PSN community fosters a more communal philosophy. XBL games are built with multiplayer in mind. The reason I play games are to hang out with other people who enjoy playing the same games. That's why I don't really get into the single player side. I enjoy the human interaction. People who play on the xbox are already communicating on dozens of other games daily and hourly. PS3 games don't give off that same sense of teamwork and communication. People that play Halo for hours a day together can easily adjust to ACV and already know each others strengths and weaknesses and already work well together. Of course there will be people that do start communicating because of ACV and there will be teams that communicate to maximize their skills. What I'm saying is that the xbox community has been doing that for years on tons of games so it will be a more natural transition for the 360 communities. The 360 version does not have as many bonuses to playing it as the PS3 does, but I prefer the 360 side of things. As much as people IRC on the PS3 there is 10x more than that going on in voice chat on the xbox. We even voice chat with each other while playing single player games like Batman, Skyrim, Mass Effect, etc. Also as Barilzar mentioned because we have a smaller fanbase the community is much more close knit. It is like living in a small town compared to a big city. Everyone knows everyone and it fosters a completely different experience. And because we have less JPs there is a higher chance that the people we do run into will talk to us in voice chat. Again I'm not saying the 360 is better... I'm saying that it suits what I want out of the game more than the PS3 does. We all have our preferences. I respect the guys that play the PS3, but I still feel that we as players don't deserve any less respect for being the off console. I don't play on the PS3 and I've been taking the time to upload videos and work on this spreadsheet for the whole of the community. Just because we are the little brother in this situation doesn't mean we share any less potential to grow up and exhibit a successful future. One son grows up to be a lawyer and the other grows up to be a doctor... both help people in their own ways and both are equally successful. I'm not exactly sure why you are getting so pissed, we all have our likes and dislikes. Why can't we just all get along? It isn't like I'm forcing people to get the 360 version, I'm just stating why I play on the 360 so it can help them make their decision. Nothin' wrong with that. Play nice Barilzar, you aren't helping the discussion with insults.
  25. Who said I was sugar coating the modders? Sure there are modders here and there, but I would much rather hang with the more communicative community. It is well worth it to hang out with other people enjoying the game and discussing it with them. If there are modders the community is small enough to be able to tell who is who and they are treated as such. I support people getting the 360 version because in the long run making those friends is well worth it. People don't take the time to communicate with each other on the PS3 as much as they do on the 360. Sure you get the little kids here and there, but they are just as easy to avoid. There are some very cool people out in the world and I enjoy meeting each and every single one of them.
