After playing the game through again with an entirely different weapon and playstyle, I found a lot of the bosses and areas to be dramatically different with regards to difficulty. Naturally, some of this has to do with familiarity of the game now, but most of it came from the playstyle of the weapon itself. My first run was with a shield and broadsword, and areas with larger than average mobs that had high poise gave me lots of trouble. Undead Settlement, Smoldering Lake, and Lothric Castle in particular killed me more than the rest of the areas. On my second playthrough I used a 2-handed greatclub, and a lot of those same oversized mobs gave me very little trouble this time, but I did find myself dying to a couple of smaller enemy hordes a couple times that didn't really affect me my first playthrough. One of the interesting things was my fights against Aldrich and Soul of Cinder. I found them cakewalks this time around-- especially soul of Cinder. The only bosses that still gave me trouble were Sulyvahn, Nameless King, and Twin Princes. Twin Princes in particular has given me overall the most trouble in the game, but they're definitely not as deadly as Nameless King. I feel that it's easier to fuck up against Twin Princes and run through all your estus quickly, but they won't kill you as fast as Nameless King.

I think Soul of Cinder might be my favorite final boss in the entire Souls series tbh, although I really liked Allant as well. I wasn't too much of a fan of Gwyn, Nashandra, or Ghernam. The atmosphere of the Soul of Cinder fight is great, and his using multiple movesets and being the combined soul of everybody who's beaten the games prior was cool as well. That juggle combo is pretty sick.

After just beating the final boss I finally have my 1st playthrough deathcount. Cemetery of Ash: 0 Iudex Gundyr: 0 Firelink Shrine: 3 High wall of Lothric: 3 Vordt of the Boreal Valley: 1 Undead Settlement: 5 Curse-Rotted Greatwood: 0 Road of Sacrifices: 1 Crystal Sage: 0 Cathedral of the Deep: 3 Deacons of the Deep: 1 Farron Keep: 1 Abyss Watchers: 0 Catacombs of Carthus: 1 High Lord Wolnir: 0 Smoldering Lake: 7 Old Demon King: 0 Irithyll of the Boreal Valley: 0 Pontiff Sulyvahn: 1 Anor Londo: 0 Aldrich, Devourer of Gods: 3 Irithyll Dungeon: 1 Profaned Capital: 0 Yhorm the Giant: 1 Dancer of the Boreal Valley: 0 Lothric Castle: 4 Dragonslayer Armor: 1 Consumed King's Garden: 0 Oceiros, the Consumed King: 0 Untended Grave: 0 Champion Gundyr: 0 Grand Archives: 1 Lothric Twin Princes: 2 Archdragon Peak: 0 Ancient Wyvern: 0 Nameless King: 1 Soul of Cinder: 3 Total: 44 I think the numbers mirror my thoughts on the hardest bosses and areas in the game. I think Smoldering Lake has the toughest enemies you can encounter for your current progression in the game, and you can get ganged up on pretty easily. Sadly, I think its boss is one of the weakest in the game. Lothric Castle and Archives are perhaps 2nd hardest in difficulty in my opinion, as all of the knights are very strong. The bosses for the most part I didn't have too much troubles with, but I definitely feel like Sulyvahn, Aldrich, Nameless King, Twin Princes, and Soul of Cinder are the hardest ones. Nameless king might be the hardest if you enter Peak at a lower level-- sadly I did mine end game, so I already had a maxed out weapon and estus. I had a hard time figuring out Aldrich's homing arrows, but Soul of Cinder was a straight up honest fight, and gave me problems with his vast moveset and staggered timing on many of his attacks. For me, he was the hardest. Wolnir or Deacons might be easiest.

I really don't get what's so annoying about it though tbh. It is big, so I can see it being annoying if you're trying to blitz through the game. But from a strictly artistic and design perspective, it's one of my favorites. I love the architecture on the inside, traversing around the flying buttresses on the outside, walking along the rafters and jumping down into what's her faces room, the creepy vibe of the cemetery with undead that give you worms, as well as the setting sun and the moon that creates, etc. The only thing bad about that area is its boss fight. After just now playing through archives and archdragon peak, I'd probably change my list to this: Archdragon Peak Grand Archives/Lothric Castle (I view these two as one, because they mix together quite nicely.) Undead Settlement Irithyll Dungeon/Profaned Capital Cathedral of the Deep It's weird in a way, but I get the feeling that I'm actually playing a Demon's Souls successor when I walk around Archdragon Peak. Something about its layout and design as well as its separation from the rest of the world makes me think of Demon's Souls and world 4. I really dig the architecture of Archdargon Peak, makes me think like I'm situated in a high Himalayan Buddhist stupa in Nepal or something. I'm ready to go start my pilgrimage around Mount Kailash already to become a dragonboy.

Everybody hating on Cathedral; I love that place. So far my favorite levels in this order would probably be: Undead Settlement Lothric Castle Irithyll Dungeon/Profaned Capital Cathedral of the Deep Road of Sacrifices and Farron Keep aren't that great though. I'm not a huge fan of Catacombs either. It's only alright.

Irithyll Dungeon is pretty much Tower of Latria, and parts Lothric Castle reminds me a lot of the interesting parts from 1-3 and 1-4 from demon's Souls. These are very strong areas and definitely some of my favorites. I don't know what that gamespot reviewer was going on about the game getting weaker towards the end. Maybe he was talking about the very end though and I'm not quite there yet.

If only you could dual invade with friends man. That'd be the only other long term strategy that would be fun.

Dark Souls 2 was all about quantity over quality: more weapons, more armor, more spells, more areas, more bosses etc. The thing that especially suffered from that type of mentality was the level design. Playing through Dark Souls 3, I don't think the inter connectivity of its world is anywhere as good as Dark Souls 1, in fact I think it's more along the lines of Dark Souls 2, where everything is pretty much laid out on a horizontal plane, and vastly different lighting is used to make each area distinct. However, the actual design and art style of most of the levels is of course, very good.

It's still a game you can put 50-60 hours into and still have fun with. In the grand scheme of things, it's not an awful game, but compared to the rest of the souls series, it's not as good.
  13. Yup, I've made sure anything motioninjoy or ds3 was uninstalled, followed the directions exactly on installing the scpserver. Xbox drivers are most up to date. Reset the bluetooth on the back of my controller, when I connect the controller to windows I get all 4 lights flashing, windows gives me a chime to let me know the controller is connected, and the controller comes up as Playstation ® on the connected devices list. However, it doesn't come up on the usb game controller list for windows. I run scp driver, and install the necessary drivers. Then I turn on scp server, it takes a while but eventually the controller is detected by it, and is connected as pad1. Start up the emulator, and nothing. Take a look at the usb controller list on windows 10, and the controller is still not listed.

If DS2 is on some major discount, it's worth playing too. By major discount I'm talking like less than 10 bucks.
  15. Can you get confirmation from that other DS4 user who said his lockbox diagonal movement was working. I followed the instructions for installing and setting up the DS3 SCP Server, but my computer doesn't even recognize the PS3 controller as a USB controller in the first place.

Fuck all that talent bullshit anyways. This is a souls game so main objective is just trolling people with trolly setups. The simplistic combat and bad connections don't make for a very PvP oriented game. Uchi users are bitches tho, that is the universal truth that never changes.

I was wondering just how more difficult ng+ would be. Compared to previous souls games, it seems like enemies hit extremely hard in regular ng playthrough, and that to accommodate for that, estus flasks heal an extreme amount of health as well. With all of that health being played with, I wouldn't think that there'd be too much of a difference between ng and ng+.. at least nothing like Demon's Souls, where a little dregling goes from taking none of your bar in ng to like 2/3 of your bar in ng+.

Oh so it's something that's gonna be patched in then I guess? I can't remember if it was Dark Souls 1 or Dark Souls 2, one of those games the poise was turned off as well or didn't work the way it was intended, and was patched in after launch,

    Dark Souls 3

Is poise turned off and not working properly? Iirc, Dark Souls/Dark Souls 2 had that problem on launch, and it was fixed via one of the first patches. A lot of the mobs sure as hell have some poise though. It makes their aggression harder to deal with, but I've also only been really playing with the broadsword, so using a greatsword class weapon or larger might wreck their face in. As far as I can tell for now, it seems like poise only affects your actions like not getting interrupted while rolling, rather than not getting interrupted in general. There is a Demon's Souls-esque way of approaching armored moves in the game too, where certain beefy weapons have the stomp weapon skill, that allows the user to absorb an incoming attack temporarily, and then unleash his slower attack freely. I haven't done shit for PvP in this game yet though, so I'm sure others can explain.

Yeah, I think they gave enemies in general more aggression and relentless attacking via faster stamina recovery and/or more stamina. It really helps make some of the harder mobs in the game more intimidating, and that applies to npc invaders as well. The npc invaders in this game aren't pushovers like dks1 and dks2. The balancing of their aggression is done nicely as well, more along the lines of Bloodborne. Dark Souls 2 had very poor balance in enemy aggression, where almost all of them were a 1-3 swing attack pattern, and then a long pause afterwards which made them easy to punish. The complete opposite would be those large hammer knights in Dragon Shrine, who would just never stop attacking, haha. The bosses on the other hand, while a lot of great thematically, don't seem to be as hard as bosses were in dks1 and dks2-- so far. As of now I've died 23 times in the game, and only 2 of those were to bosses (and 1 of those sadly to the Deacons). Been playing solo the entire time too, so it's not a case of just ganking up on bosses with multiple people in a party.

I wouldn't call it anime faces but rather alien faces. The real Demon's Souls starts here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdnkveYTkD8
  23. If you type me out a mapping setting that lets me use the face buttons for lock reset and some keyboard key for weapon drop the sooner I could play with you.
