Bag of Peanuts

Bag of Peanuts (1/11)

  1. It's third-person and more hack-n-slash I'd say seeing as Monkey fights with a staff though from what I saw on some of the trailers there are some shooting segments.
  2. Believe it just came out today and I'm planning on getting it though maybe not til next week. As for the premise, you play as a guy named Monkey who, after escaping from a slaver transport and "escaping" on an escape pod, wakes up to find a slave headband on his head. The headband was placed there by a girl named Trip (who bares more than a passing resemblance to Nariko from Heavenly Sword) and you find out she has hacked it so it responds to her voice commands AND that it's tied to her vital signs so if she dies, you die. She then tells Monkey that if he helps her travel back to her homeland, which is 300 miles to the west, she will remove the headband from him and allow him to go. Thus begins the story. I fell in love with it after playing the demo because the gameplay was pretty smooth and the setting is pretty interesting as far as post-apocalyptic fare goes because instead of the more usual barren, desolate landscape you're dropped into a more verdant, lush land where the ruins of the modern world have become overgrown with greenery. Also the story itself seems like it can make for some pretty engaging gaming so I'm definitely gonna be checking this out. Anyone else tried the demo or thinking of getting it?
  3. Like I said "...before the online died off" since back when it first came out, there was actually quite a bit of people doing co-op. Of course theres no one these days but I still remember how fun it was. I mean personally, I dunno about you guys but I really enjoy playing through campaigns with friends/other players and I usually (always with friends) have a blast while doing so. Thats why on those rare moments when I pop Lost Planet 2 back in, I usually go into the online campaign mode because I'd much rather play co-op rather than versus. It doesn't matter whether the difficulty required it or not, it's just fun being able to play games co-op with your buddies when you can!
  4. Got this game the day it came out and beat it a few days later. My thoughts... -The single-player campaign is short. VERY short. If I didn't have the other obligations that forced me to spread my playtime out over a series of days (and if I didn't divert my attention to the online at times) I'd probably have beaten the campaign in a matter of hours. -The online mode is hard to break into because of the way they set it up; basically you unlock more stuff the higher you level up. So this means during the first few levels, you're severely limited with what you can do and you're likely to get knocked around ALOT by the higher-leveled players seeing as they've got alot stronger weaponry than you. It can be pretty fun I will say but you have to be willing to stick out the initial leveling process AND it does leave alot to be desired. -The controls and gameplay are tight and learning how to pilot the wanzers (what they call mechs in this game) is easy to pick up. Theres also gonna be times where you'll have to shoot enemies from a transport craft (in a rail-shooter type of gameplay) and times when you're gonna have to go in on foot. The on-foot battles aren't as awesome or engaging as the wanzer battles (likely due to feeling tacked on and having simplistic controls and appearances) so these moments might just seem like unneeded breaks from the wanzer combat. -Compared to previous entries in the series, the story sucked. Plain and simple. You can pretty much see every plot twist coming (except for a few here n' there) so don't expect to be engaged in anyway by the story. This is due to Square Enix giving the story-writing duties to the guy who wrote FFXIII's story as opposed to the usual Front Mission story writers. Glad I never liked the FF series very much... Overall it struck me as a game that had potential, but disappointed in the end. And this is why I went back to ACFA instead as my mech game of choice for the time being.
  5. I like both, but not EVERYTHING about either. And I sometimes wonder if I honestly prefer one over the other. I'll explain... Armored Core 4: -The next gen game I wanted to play more than anything else. Didn't buy it for a while cuz I didn't own a PS3 then but when I did finally get it, there was still a sizeable number of people playing so the online was fun. -To me, what AC4 had over FA was the story, which seemed alot more engaging to me than the latter's story. To be more clear; your characters actions in AC4 seemed to be alot more significant, especially given the more challenging game mechanics and what was going on in the story in general. Kind of ironic that I collapsed RayLeonard when I was such a big customer of theirs hah! -The gameplay was too similar to FA to really make any worthwhile comparisons but I agree that the lack of infinite flight, etc. seemed to make AC4 more challenging compared to ACFA: I took my lumps coming up in AC4 and then when ACFA came out, I almost breezed through it easily due to the easier energy mechanics. Armored Core For Answer: -Same fun online as AC4 at first, then when the lag became more apparent the fun slowly dissipated. -Now what ACFA lacked in story compared to AC4 it made up for it in scale of enemies (the arms forts, though they turned out to be big pushovers more than anything) and one very important detail: co-op missions. Seriously, that made a big world of difference, especially during the heyday of FA's online portion when you could always find a few competitive matches and partnerships going at almost all hours of the day. I know alot of people take it for granted but to me, the only thing more fun than stomping obscene amounts of ass in a big mech is to do so with a friend and I did that alot before the online mode died off. -The infinite flight mechanic kind of seemed cool at first but after a while it got old. Even the assault armor feature didn't get used by me as much as I would've liked due to being so used to simply rolling with a pure-OB booster. These days I only own and play ACFA but I'm beginning to consider tracking down AC4 just to run through the story again. Thats my 2 cents.
