Ataraxis Posted December 7, 2013 Report Share Posted December 7, 2013 So, Square Enix has this Final Fantasy-ish (it's comparable to the DS game 4 Heroes of Light, in particular) game coming out in February (or if you live anywhere that isn't NA, it came out today, or in the last couple days) called Bravely Default. It's actually been out in Japan for over a year, and the version we're getting is an enhanced re-release. What originally drew me to it was the art style, which is done by the same guy who did the FFT games (Akihiko Yoshida). I kind of figured I'd look into getting the game when it came out, and then I saw a collector's edition with an artbook (as well as AR cards and soundtrack) and now I'm really interested. I've looked more at gameplay and trailers because of that, and I gotta say, it looks pretty rad. There's hours of stuff on youtube, but I'll just put a trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voh6NEpwEVY Uhhhm... I'm not keen on the voice acting at all, and the character models aren't really my thing, but mechanically it looks pretty good. There's a job class system, with 24 different ones, which looks pretty good. It doesn't seem to do anything overly adventurous (time manipulation, maybe), but it looks well executed, and that's more than fine with me. The environments look nothing short of amazing. Also, they've announced a sequel in Japan: Bravely Second. So there might be that to look forward to, if BD is good, and BS gets localized later. Thoughts? The reviews and boards I've read seem to agree that it's just really solid traditional gameplay. For me, it feels like it's been a long time since I've played something that fits in that exact mold. I don't know if that's because I don't see as many games like this, or if it's because I moved away from the genre. In it, you'll play a side quest that is not in the main game, and be able to earn items that will transfer to the main game.
