Xbone

Bad things are okay if people let it go on for a long time. I don't see why everyone hated Hitler, they should have just accepted him considering how long he was around for.

And comparing hardware makes people fanboys.

I think it's just easier to call Duro an idiot, though.

360 still tops PS3 in hardware and I'll have that written on my tombstone, but PS4 demolished Xbone without even doing a presentation in terms of hardware, just for the fact it won't have a mandatory camera. Forget that they ditched the garbage cell processor, and have superior RAM. Hell, even WiiU is doing better at this point, just for the sake I have the option to play offline and have my damn privacy still, even if the games are shit.

I'M STILL MAD AS HELL IF YOU HAVEN'T FIGURED THAT OUT

Trying to figure out what they meant by 'water cooler.' Do they want Xbone in offices for people to talk around or what even.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the analogy they were going for was that XB1 would become the new place for you and everyone you know to gather and communicate.

I honestly don't understand being angry about this. I can see being disappointed that the next console is going to be shitty but being angry is dumb. You're not entitled to anything. Microsoft can change things as they see fit. It's their prerogative. It's just like fanboys getting angry about movies changing things in the adaptation of books and the like. Getting upset or disappointed is appropriate but actually getting angry at devs/producers/whoever is immature.

I'd like to think the anger stems less from a sense of entitlement, and more from the disturbing direction such a large and influential company has apparently taken with their product. I mean it's easy to say, oh, it's gamers, the same people who go berserk over ME3's ending and cause EA to be voted worst company despite far more deserving candidates. At the same time, though, Microsoft is a company that others try to emulate, and the idea of being monitored 24/7 in your own home is one that brings to mind more than a few stories set in dystopian futures.

Unless that's something you'd put that under upset/disappointed, I dunno.

It's not being forced on anyone though, so there's that, too.

I'm with John. Getting that mad is weird to me. There are a few reasons I could think of to get mad but none of them are mangus' reason.

Like one reason would be if I was a parent. Their marketing teams and shit look big picture, and see how much pressure you can apply on a family by offering something called the "latest and greatest" of a given company (M$ in this case). You're kids are gonna want it, and it does all this other extra shit that could make family life easier, but they also get to monitor you. That would normally be an auto-no for a lot of people but kids don't usually think about that. They just want the latest and greatest system. So basically they can force people to buy their product by pressuring other sources, and get what they want, which is to spy on you beating off to gears of war or halo, whatever the fuck. Those Forza games.

If you're just another dood, like mangus presumably is, then it's like you said my guy 'you have a choice' if you don't like the direction they're going in don't buy it.

wringing your hands and sobbing uncontrollably on your keyboard, is, as John put it, immature.

I share the same sentiments as Keanu.

Once this things released, that one more step into the private world of families across the world will be taken, it's a pretty big deal and people take technology too lightly. Kid's will be asking there parents to get them an Xbox One and the parents will most likely not even be aware of what this thing is capable of. People will become used to the idea, it will no longer be considered taboo to have such a device in your living space, and it will only become more common and prevalent from there.

Something I'd like to note, one thing to consider besides the camera is the microphone and voice recognition. The voice recognition in today's gadgets is remarkable to say the least, google's homepage can jot down text word for word upon speaking without much of a problem. Text documents aren't that big and it would be completely possible for an Xbox one to accrue years worth of conversations from ones private life. Keep in mind, the things always listening, as soon as you say "Xbox on" the thing hears you and activates. One could type in keywords and narrow down results within these text documents with ease.

Oh nah I agree with all that. I sort of said the same thing you said in that first paragraph. I think we all (you, me, Keanu, John) all see and agree that the privacy intrusion stuff is pretty serious business. What I didn't agree with was that mangus getting this angry was reasonable. My reason I agreed with John is essentially because his concerns aren't just tied to privacy, they run the gammut, all of which cause him a very real pain in his heart.

Like John said, getting upset/disappointed makes sense, but he's developing an ulcer over it.

See Mangus' valiant first strike on Microsoft: BOOM, HEADSHOT

and also

I'M STILL MAD AS HELL IF YOU HAVEN'T FIGURED THAT OUT

So basically I think we're all on the same page here, the only real diff is John and I think mangus is getting too mad over the new xbox one, and you and Keanu thinks he isn't.

what MANGUS posted was actually a copypasta of some random neckbeard on the internet. i found out after i made fun of him for it tho but that doest mean i still cant make fun of him for it

and from a business standpoint, i really dont see the orwellian implications of the kinect to be particularly profitable. youd have to set up a bunch of people in some office that record every movement and phrase of everyone near a kinect and in reality youd just be wasting a shitload of time trying to figure out information you couldve gotten from a car lottery survey. sure you set up some recording machine on the other end, but then its the same thing as internet privacy issues and to be honest i could give a shit less if some robit keeps track of my pornography habits. they probably wouldnt even want to run the risk of liability of recording people through the kinect because if there were a security breach, theyd have a PR scandal of astronomical levels

I never said anything about entitlement, nor am I mad over any such reason, and you're you're not entitled to make such half-baked assumptions in the first place.

Stupidity flat out pisses me the fuck off and Xbone is basically an extra large box of it. Sure, I don't have to buy it. Doesn't make it exist any less, though.

And everyone is talking about it everywhere I go, it's like being reminded Capcom exists hourlFUCKING CAPCOM SUCK ASS SO BAD HNNNNGH

(i also like how you guys couldn't even tell i didn't write it when it was signed by name that wasn't Magnus, and if it was signed, it still wouldn't have been me since I don't sign my own work.)

Actually, I just don't know exactly where his anger is stemming from. It's an "I'd like to think" moment, which means I've got reasons that I believe would make sense, but I know there's reasons other people are going by that really don't. Like, I know Ninety is totally right and that a lot of it is just nerd rage. There's other stuff, too, I'm sure.

Personally I'm thinking a lot of it is overblown anyway and the thing isn't nearly as capable as they were claiming. They just wanted to hype it as some fkin new age tech and did poorly at it.

Man that's a fucking stupid reason to be angry. You should be pissed off at yourself for being so stupid. Stupidity should be ignored. It's why my eyes glaze over whenever I see Pendragon post.

I assumed it was you that wrote it until I got to the signature. You would have been better off putting something at the beginning saying something along the lines of "here is a list of complaints I saw some guy make that I agree with so I am posting it here." It would have prevented any assumptions otherwise. Your bad.

I'm entitled to assume whatever I want. Everyone is. Just because I assumed the wrong thing doesn't mean I wasn't entitled to do so. This is America, son. Land of the free and all that. I also wouldn't say it's half-baked since I was going off all of the complaints you listed. You never said "I am angry because this is stupid" so I don't know how I'm supposed to draw that conclusion when all you've been talking about is features about XB1 that you think are bad or evil or whatever.

The fact that you said you were mad after listing reasons why the XB1 is worse than the other next-gens led me to believe you were mad because you think the XB1 will be worse than the other next-gens.

That wouldn't surprise me at all dood. I was helping a friend with her first real resume (like post-graduating uni) and I was just remembering all the weird and stupid contradictory shit you gotta do to make a nice one. Like you gotta keep it on 1 page, and you dont want too many words, but you also want as many words as possible so their database searches pull your shit, and like how you want to fluff your meager experience as much as possible even though truthfully in the interview they're gonna only talk about like 1 thing on it.

Maybe m$ is just that kid who gave u the dumb resume with shit that's too fluffed and using weird fonts instead of sticking to a nice, clean, professional, font instead.

No Magnus, I didn't say that. I said the spying isn't an xbox only problem, so don't point it out amongst the crowd and demonize it alone.

I hope the spying and tracking does end, but I won't hold my breath with the way things are going.

Now can we get off this and talk about something else?

Not until E3. There is really nothing to talk about.

And for the record, my opinion in this Orwellian subject is pretty close to Nob's. While I do not think MS will spend resources to surveillance all their customers, they don't need to. They can already, legally, collect information of their customers within their domain, such as video game habits, movie habits, and eventually, what channels people watch and determine what commercials are effective. These are all relevant because it can be used toward marketing, are safe/legal data to mine, and profitable because other companies will pay good for this data. The new XBone channel feature acts like a Neilsen ratings equipment, but specifically targeted to XBone users and is a lot more accurate. None of this I really have issues with.

No I meant the topic of spying/tracking.

I find it funny that because of the hate for the Xbox One (I will not call it Xbone, I hate that name) people view Sony as a saint, when we really don't know what they are doing. Stuff could come out at E3 that make Sony look just as evil as Microsoft. They didn't give a whole lot of details regarding the PS4, guys.

I know this is wishful thinking, but wait for e3 to make judgements on the consoles.

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once

Emphasis my own.

This next part actually sounds really cool. It's the only cool thing about XB1 that I've seen so far.

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time
