UFC 164 run-down.

Ben Rothwell gave Brandon Vera the bathsalts for a TKO.

Chad Mendez gave Clay Guida a brick to the grill and knocked out the Jackson fighter for the first time. This was extremely pleasing to me, because of Guida's performance vs. Gray Maynard, it's also hilarious because Guida was shit-talking because he was a 155'er, he went down 10lbs and got gtfo'd.

Josh Barnett and Frank Mir went at it old-school slobberknocker style, too bad Mir is a chump and Barnett smelled blood. No submissions or even attempts despite what people might have expected. It was a flash-ko/early stoppage but whatever.

Benson Henderson got submitted in the first round in his title defense against Anthony Pettis, after just getting his bjj black belt. Pettis showed some resilience and tdd, then gave the champ a couple of nasty body kicks. He went for a flashy wheel kick and got taken down, but then slipped in a very nice armbar. The former champ remarked to the very high level move in the post-fight chit-chat w/ Joe Rogan.

Jon Jones almost got nudged out in a decision vs. Alexander Gustaffson.

I was thinking Jones would dominate Alex, and was very wrong. Alex showed a level of improvement I can barely get my head around. I can't wait to see what this loss makes of him in the future. It was an absolutely amazing fight and a pleasure to witness.

Rousimar Palhares (Paul Harris) got released by the UFC after his 2nd infraction of holding heel hooks while his opponent is tapping and the ref is breaking them up. I'm happy with this as I think he needs to learn a lesson, I'm also upset by this because he's an amazing fighter. But he has a shit track record, which includes pissing hot, and a reputation of pulling similar shit at ADCC (holding holds).

Dong Yung Kim gave heavy favorite Erick Silva the D.

That was pretty good.

I feel asleep before Maia vs. Shields, but apparently Maia didn't destroy Shields which I was predicting to happen, so yeah.

I don't generally follow MMA, but I know that once you knock out your opponent you generally don't come in and land more hits in. That's why the ref got involved in the gif there right?

Generally you hit him until the ref stops it, because you can wobble a guy and the ref might let him continue, and you don't want them recovering if you've hurt them.

See Hendo vs. Bisping for that.

But I don't get tummy aches :/

Yeah I see what you mean now. Most of the fights I watched were generally judge's decisions so I didn't see many knockouts.

Anderson got his leg broke when Chris Weidman checked some kicks in round 2, Weidman was dominating the fight, and the Era of Anderson is officially over.

Thank you based Weiner.

Chris Weidman, the UFC Middleweight Champ, man who beat Anderson Silva, twice; recovering after knee-surgery.

In other news, Eddie Bravo grappled Royler Gracie to a draw. The general consensus is Bravo got the better of Royler again, in their rematch 11 years in the waiting. The Gracies are all kerfuffle over this, as they usually are whenever one of their kin loses.

To remind you, the Gracies complain about point fighting in competitions like ADCC. Even thou Royler spent the whole 20 minute match w/ EB stallin, particularly the last 5-6 minutes holding on to EB's gi pants to defend a brutal leg lock EB calls "The Vaporizer".

When Sakuraba beat a slew of Gracies in Pride, and Royce got butthurt and called him out in a no-time limit match and got stomped for 90 minutes before quiting; they made Sakuraba an "honorary" Gracie so that Royce could hold onto not losing to anyone who wasn't a Gracie thing, until he got mashed by Matt Hughes.

When Rickson Gracie, the family superman, who caught shit from papa Helio Gracie (the grand poo-bah of BJJ) for padding his record with practice matches, lost to Ron Tripp in a grappling match after getting KO'd when Tripp threw him on his dome. Rickson bs'd about not knowing the rules, and stuck with saying he was undefeated. Rickson even made up a rematch where he subbed Ron Tripp, which never happened.

If you go watch the match, it's fairly interesting if you like grappling. Then go watch the "Gracie Breakdown" they basically blabber on about how Royler was never in danger, and Gracie BJJ is bestest. But they do a blatantly horrible job talking about how Royler got controlled, and a normal human being would be in agonizing pain, and if Royler wasn't stalling he'd have a dislocated knee and ankle if he couldn't hold onto EB's gi pants.

Brazilians gonna Brazil.

I'm really starting to hate South America as a thing, mostly because of Dota, this doesn't help.

Last night, was an amazing card @ UFC 189. The prelims honestly sucked until the last fight, Matt Brown v. Tim Means which was a great fight. But from there on that night, the Just Bleed God was one happy motherfucker. And while most people are most concerned with Irish sensation Conor McGregor. I think Dana White said it best, that Greatest Fight Ever, could very well be Robbie Lawler v. Rory MacDonald 2.

Posted Image
First round honestly was lack luster, but it was a slow start to a tremendous war. Probably the first big moment was Rory landing a high kick that rocked Robbie.

Posted Image
This was the end of the fourth round.

Posted Image
Rory eventually found a shattered nose being punched in by Lawler to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Posted Image
This was immediately after the stop.
