Fallout: New Vegas

Just got my copy in today from ups. I went ahead and went with the PC version of New Vegas because I didn't like the freezing and extremely jaggedy nature of PS3 Fallout3. I'm digging the PC version a lot, the higher resolution and textures make the game look way better, and anti-aliasing helps as well. However I think something's wrong with the game at this point when it comes to its anti-aliasing and VATS. My computer's gpu can handle 2560x1440 with highest graphics settings no problem, but whenever I enter VATS the fps drops to 1 frame every 10 seconds or so. I can run the highest graphics at native resolution with no AA, and that problem will go away.

Hope it gets patched soon.

At first glance the map seems smaller and less explorable. The strip is viewable from the hill of the first town. Can't wait to explore more!

Yeah Dead Money is obnoxious. I really like the new suits I've found so far, and the tonberry knife is neat, but otherwise yeah. Police pistol is lame as fuck, I haven't gotten that new rifle yet, and my cowgirl doesn't use energy so no holorifle yet. I think it's the whole contrived "you're knocked out and wake up in an unfamiliar place" bit that's grating on my nerves. We already saw that in this game.

It's boring, the ghosts are lame, and I hate that walking around does so much damage. It's irritating to me. It'd be less irritating if I was enjoying the scenery, but I'm not, so fuck it. Also, I don't like any of the 3 helpers so far, although I have to say Dean and God have great voice acting. I know John hates the helpers a lot more than I do, too.

It feels like all of the mechanics and stuff they're using in Dead Money are hokey ways of adding a sense of danger to the game. It's like this: you give my guy whose suggested to be lvl 20+ a tonberry knife and buff armor. If you want to scare me fill this place with deathclaws. Monkey men aren't going to cut it, even if they have glowing eyes. I mean fuck, they all die in 3 spear throws. Fuck them.

Even at lvl 2 this probably wouldn't be very scary. Those idiots would probably still die in 3 spear throws.

EDIT: To be fair, I felt (and still feel) that the beginning of NV is the worst part of the game, and it is in and of itself a weak start. The game itself I love, though. That being said, I can't say that this is my final opinion on Dead Money, just my current impression.

Wow. Tell that to my friends who, when I told it was hard to get into because of the start, yelled at me. ):

Yeah, at lvl 8 it'd be a waste. You can tell just from all the very hard and hard challenges everywhere. I think the recommendation of 20+ makes sense if only because you should have the stats to make most of the checks you run across in the DLC.

It's certainly not to make sure you're strong enough. Ghost people die to broken arms. Fags.

Christine's checks are based off your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. skills though so that doesn't matter. There are a ton of Very Hard and Hard locks but most of the ones I've done haven't even been worth it. I keep opening Hard boxes and finding like 10 rounds of ammo and a couple of bobby pins.

I'm also sick of running past radios and speakers and sneaking around holograms. I want to shoot things with my gun. I'm a cowgirl. On a steel horse, I ride.

Yeah that's the point, guy. He was lvl 8 so his stats didn't allow him to beat all the checks. And to say they're based off SPECIAL and thus level doesn't matter is bullshit too. What do you think got you the ability to have that high a SPECIAL in the first place? Making money for implants and perks. Stuff you did/get while gaining levels. And what about all of the speech checks based off of skills, like Christine's 75 med check?

Not being able to go everywhere means you miss shit. Each one of those checks alone might not amount to much, but together they get you shit. The game did an okay job of making sure stuff you can miss isn't behind those silly checks but otherwise you're basically locked out of half the field cuz of stats.

EDIT: If you choose to miss shit, that's one thing, but for some people finding everything is part of the fun. Although not on Hardcore. Fuck this DLC on hardcore it's even more of a chore.

Finished Dead Money last night. The ending was ok even if half of it was just teasers for the next DLC. Getting assassin suit, sierra madre reinforced armor, and Vera's outfit was good. I don't use energy weapons so I just dropped Holorifle. Gold bars were nice but it's not like I'm hurting for chips. Overall, fair to middling.

I just finished as well. Um so the casino blows the villa out nasty. Fuck the villa. Not to say the casino was that great, though. The fact that you still only get to kill those idiot ghost people makes me angry. The holograms should have been way cooler then they were. At least the items are really neat. Vera's dress is hot, auto rifle is ripped, and the security armor and assassin suit are sik too. Can't complain with this item haul, though. I'd give this a D+/C-.

Fuck that villa.

Dude, I'm almost at the level cap again. Lever-action shotgun + cowboy + shotgun surgeon + And Stay Back is fucking ripped. And Stay Back is kind of wacky. They fall down pretty often and it's kind of funny to see nightkin and dclaws collapse after one shotgun shot. It tricks me sometimes too because they'll fall over and I think they're dead, hahaha.

Veronica's new perk is crazy. She was broken before and now she's just an utter maniac. Haymakers fly like locusts.

EDIT: By the way, you still need to avoid that mission where you send the ghouls into space. I got so many bugs and glitches doing it. There was one point where the game was bugging out so much that it took me 5 minutes to walk 30 feet. Even after it was done, the game would freeze for long periods. I saved before I did the mission so I may reload that one if it shook everything up permanently.
