PS3 is Getting Raped

And here, PS3 was finally getting its fourth, fifth, and sixth games this year, and BAM. PS3 is suddenly bent over the table and given the biggest meatpounding of its life, and becomes the most hacked console since Wii.

One of these says Bops is going off of PS3 for good, and Modern Warfare may follow with how things are!

Yep, pretty awful. Though I doubt they'll actually shut the Black Ops servers down, that looks like something said to scare people into shutting up. I don't know, but I'm not even getting these issues that people are still complaining about. They went away after they fixed that one bad patch and when the Christmas rush died down. Now the servers feel just as reliable as any of the CoD games before it, along with the fact that Treyarch seems to have done their job to prevent current hacking on it. Crybabies need some pacifiers, or Internet they aren't paying $1 a month for.

Anyway, I still have hope that Sony will get into gear soon and at least prevent the copy pirating from hitting really hard.

Also, hasn't it been pretty obvious that they've been losing money from the PS3 since launch?

Every console has been hacked so far.

Oh, and both Sony and Microsoft have been losing money, while Nintendo is still making profits.

Now.

Is it possible to quit wanking about console wars? Seriously? If I wanted that I'd go back to /v/.

PS: PC trumps both as it is, but I don't wave it in the faces of others.

The funny thing is that the PS3 would never have been hacked by Geohot if they hadn't removed Linux support.

Oh well.

This will go the way of the PSP, and I doubt Sony will ever release another home console. The PSP2 might be shelved too.

Every console has been hacked so far.

It wasn't just the PS3 console they hacked, it was the digital key that Sony used to sign every piece of software they ran on it. Much more severe. Silly part was that the formula they used to generate the key was flawed, where Random was always the same number.

I think they might be able to generate new keys for new games that will come out, but now that the console itself is open, nothing says hackers can't get the new key directly from their console.

Well, if hackers were that big a problem, PC gaming would be dead already, and it isn't, so no matter how severe this seems, there's always a chance for recovery.

I'm really getting sick of seeing tihs same thread on a hundred different sites.

Besides, at least the company is doing something about it:

I'm really sick of seeing various gamers talk about the gaming industry on different sites.

That's ultimately your problem. Not everyone visits the same sites you do (even more applicable in this case; "Not everyone visits the exact same sites"), and no one is forcing you to read or respond to every thread on the matter.

Oh well. It's no secret that they'd be busting their ass trying to fix it, and hopefully the news you posted about the 3.56 firmware update is true and they've fixed it properly.

@ Art,

The PSP2 should be shelved. It should have never gotten off the ground, actually. Their efforts should be focused on the PSP Phone, since it's the only one that has a chance, IMO.

Hm, I am surprised they managed to fix it at all. I was told that it was a flaw in a non-patchable part in the system.

Unless the 3.56 firmware has a new active check for when software runs.

Either way, I consider this a good thing. No-one wants the PS3 to turn into what the PSP has turned into.

I think that trying to achieve everything on a small device tends to make the device bad in all areas. The PS3 had that exact kind of identity crisis when it first released.

Also, PSP2 is actually NGP.

I can't believe Sony hasn't been on the Internet for the past 3 years, and named the system an acronym that could be replaced with No Games Portable. A common joke for the PS3.

Done right, I think they'd end up with the "at least it's a phone" attitude the same way the PS3 gets the "at least it's a blu ray player." I agree with the thinking that the handheld gaming device is at an end with new non-gaming items being able to accomplish the same thing.

I know, right? When it was announced, almost everyone immediately thought it up themselves over on Vidya.

Another launch failure is probably what Sony needs to finally get that a multi-tool isn't as good as a tool built for one job. But they won't understand, anyway...

Well, decided to update out of Geohot's 3.55. Wasn't using it for much anyway, and I don't know exactly what Sony can do to PS3's anyway. PSN access is fairly important to me.

Luckily it went off without a hitch. No bricks when I went back to Official 3.55, then from that to 3.56.

Errr, how exactly is it a rootkit anyway?

A rootkit is software that enables continued privileged access to a computer while actively hiding its presence from administrators by subverting standard operating system functionality or other applications.

Seeing as Sony can change exactly what Standard Operating System Functionality is, this can't be defined as a rootkit. The guy is just using that word to evoke memories of the Sony BMG rootkit fiasco.

And Sony already transmits what you have been playing to the PSN when you are connected to the internet anyway.

Seeing as the PS3 is a closed system, I don't see any issues with Sony using that kind of updates to check for unofficial software. Maybe if it was on your PC, but I doubt anyone is using their PS3 to file tax returns.

One last thing, there are millions of PS3s online. Sony would never just "go and check". There would have to be some kind of software trigger that would lead into further investigation.

It's too bad they did it to the coolest spokesman ever, but oh well.

  • 3 weeks later...

He might have a strange hard on for Xbox. Might be his addiction to this topic.

Or maybe its a personal vendetta against Sony?

Or maybe he secretively loves Sony?

Maybe he's being controlled by satellite.

Or maybe he's trying to keep us informed.

Or I'm just making things up.
