I'm thinking of remaking the title, do you think the old one is good enough?

I've been working on it a few hours, and here is what I have now, I had no idea it was a bit disliked, lol. What do you think of the near finished version?

I like old but it has this weird conflict of trying to look rigid, clean, and professional while also trying to look cartoony, whimsical and campy. I think if anything it should lean more towards the latter.

The new one is just trying too hard.

It would probably help if you made them in a vector editor like Illustrator.

I see your point, but who is Owen? : ( Are you referring to Dantonio or Bae.

I guess the style of this is sort of unsuited, but due to time constraints, I might go with it or the one before it(that one is actually a vector made in illustrator.) The newest one was made in photoshop which I think I mentioned before.

The other style I almost went with was something similar to this, but I thought people might think it would look like a sound effect rather than a title. I was definitely going to go with a text of this style though, found it on a random website. But I would recreate a similar style by hand as the title for Rayburst.

This was the alternative, but the reason I went with the other one was due to the scary dragon bosses in the sequel and the league of greed in the sequel after, so I thought the style might make light of them and instead went with the more stylized type. It was intentionally overworked though for the effect of it, lol, but it probably doesn't come off as too appealing?

The title would be overlayed over the planet pic for the title screen. This planet pic.

But in a 16:9 format.

Which I haven't gotten around to doing yet. I gotta finish a gig, which will go on until tommorrow night, then I resume hopefully on the 26th again.

The other, other alternative, is to make the title in the same font as the menu font, but with stylized gradients and borders on it.

No, I prefer the most recent logo iteration. That's because it doesn't have slanted 3D words with a sheen like the second version, which always seemed a little corny to me. I mean, the new nearly-finished version also has a sheen and shadows, but its more washed out colors and smaller shadow distance make those effects less jarring and more pleasant to me. But this is coming from a guy who prefers less vivid colors 80% of the time, like in phone or tv settings.

I do agree the old versions feel like an awkward combination of professional and campy. The sheen and slant look overdone, I'm not a fan of the colors, and overall the letters aren't as clean as your new one. I'm not certain if my dislike is because of that last point, so maybe if it were touched up my thoughts would change.

The original is also pretty nice, though it does have an early prototype quality to it. It feels fitting for a simple flash or arcade game, especially as you've put it right next to the menu in those two screens. For a comic series, however, I vastly prefer your newest version.

A logo that's more extravagant and "popping" like the BOOM! image is cool, and I think it could be a strong contender if done well. I can imagine it on, say, a poster spread of all the characters hanging out in a special comic chapter (http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130128063152/onepiece/images/6/66/Chapter_1.png[/size]]like in manga).

@TANK TOP BUDDHA I see, shoot, I should have gone with the toonish pop up style. D :

@Bae Your analysis is spot on, and speaking of comic titles, I just realized that the latest title reminds me of late 80s or early 90s comic book titles that were being all edgy and stuff.

Still haven't finished gig and errands so I can't really continue just yet. x _x On my to do list is the shop mechanics, and the boss mechanics. Then when that is done, I'll see if I can update the title.

@Bae Thanks, I was really sure about this, so I added the extra details like glowing random lines here and there.

@TANK TOP BUDDHA Yeah, the first one is great, #2 and #3 had their strengths, I especially liked the stone like area around #2. But the top version is definitely best.

@Bakuhatsu Penguin You mean a title with a baseline theme?

Here is how the title would look if I put it in the game title screen, here are various set ups, with the top version being my favorite:

What the previous version title screen would look like:

The previous two title screens:

Lol, I found the title of the prototype, I went all out with animating it back then:

And I have compiled all the possibly player characters waiting in line to be in-game, including the vendors:

Speaking of vendors, here is how the shop front looks in-game:

EDIT:

Forgot to mention about super mode:

http://i.imgur.com/RW6cIfi.jpg

It's something I'll implement in the sequel, in super mode, they're attack and defense are upped, and they act like they're not not trying. For example, Pif would be reading a book during super mode, and her weapon floats now, so she shoots enemies without really paying attention to them since she's reading. Grafto would have his arms crossed and his basic attack is a finger flick, with super attack being his ultimate attack off a casual swing{with the drill flames, minus him needing to spin.}

Ritrika wears shades and doesn't even get into a stance to attack, her arm moves super fast, faster than her current animations. And for Phreit, he shoots effortlessly from the hip and his gun is in a holster. He shoots a bullet the size of his weakest attack, but with an explosion like that of his ultimate attack{or at least half size.} He can fire this attack rapidly. {It's like if in AC, you had a machine gun, with each shot having a GL's explosion.}
