Nomrah
Video Game music is something I've always greatly appreciated. Its a young genre in comparison to most, and its interesting to see how its just beginning to break out into a more "respectable" stage in the world of music. The fans who grew up on video games are getting older, and with it, a generation that has grew to respect the medium. I never would have imagined at the age of seven that some day I'd get to watch and hear Final Fantasy compositions performed live in concert. Great video game music greatly enhances your playing experience and helps create a powerful sense of mood and atmosphere. It can often stay with you long after you finish the game. This topic is dedicated to Video Game music you find worth noting, music thats left a lasting impression on you for one reason or another. Hears some of my favorite music heard in video games. I'll keep my list short for now. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night: One of the greatest games accompanied by one of the greatest soundtracks. I own the complete soundtrack and I will never get bored of it. Michiru Yamane is a musical genius to create such elaborate melodies in so many varied styles. All of the songs are rich in detail, quality, and atmosphere. Link to "Dance of Pales" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3zIJ5wgaA8 one of my favorite songs from the game.Other songs I'd recommend checking out.... Crystal Teardrops, Wandering Ghosts, Rainbow Cemetery, Wood Carving Partita, although they're all worth checking out. Silent Hill series: Akira Yamaoka is a composer who really takes video game music seriously. His compositions add an extremely deep level of depth to the overall playing experience, filling the game with a very powerful sense of atmosphere. All of the music fits perfectly into the game, from the more traditional structured music heard when encountering characters, to the heavily atmospheric and industrial sounds heard when deep in the games dark atmosphere. I own five Silent Hill soundtracks and I can honestly say its some of the highest quality music I own. I've even grown a strong taste for atmospheric ambient music thanks to the games, one of the soundtracks is 80 minutes long and only contains the purely environmental ambient music of Silent Hill 2, I listen to that whenever I'm doing something creative. Heres one of my favorite songs from the series, the main theme of Silent Hill 2. and I can't leave out this song very relaxing. I could go on, but I'll save that for another time. Butts
I only like ambient music in games. Like Halo's orchestral opening and some of the later parts of the game.

Niji Superfan
this Fuck. Yes. No one DIDN'T shit their pants the minute they saw Atma Weapon (Ultima Weapon for you sorry fags born in the nineties) and heard this play. Not only do you get that usual video game mentality where "Oh shit, this guy has DIFFERENT boss music, this is how you know he's totally going to wreck my shit," but the song just gives you an impending sense of you-are-fucked. God damn, nostalgia. While we're still on that kick... Greatest piece of music in a Final Fantasy game, period.
YUNG MASTERLESS GLENCOUR
FF6 is soooooooooooo gooooooooooddddddddd To mention one of the easier to overlook ones: The Actraiser soundtrack is brilliant. Especially the uh symphonic version. Some of the best music I've ever heard, without a doubt. I just wish they had a symphony do the Illusion of Gaia soundtrack. I want Larai Cliffs done by a full orchestra.
Magnus
Most of us love AC's music guys and their music out of AC, too. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOSTation#p/...0/0/0_dqUz7-yNs I love music that pretends to be game music while having a comic that pretends to be a game as well. http://homestuck.bandcamp.com/album/homestuck-vol-3 Brave Fencer Musashi did indeed have a wicked soundtrack, and I completely agree with the internet on ODST winning Soundtrack of the Year last year. I really love 3D Dot Heroes' soundtrack, too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ek2pU0WiGE...feature=related Jet Set Radio Future is also huge. I couldn't go without Aisle 10 on my playlist without hopping out a window and going splat. Mat Clark also made a bunch of great songs for LittleBIGPlanet, but also compiled a few other great songs. I still listen to Megaman X on youtube every now and then. Some of the best music in game history right there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJKfyZZbz7A...feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw4HFYoBjSo...feature=related Shadow of the Colossus should be at the top of this list. I feel dumb for not mentioning it first. It's the most fitting music, it changes so fluently while delivering the sense of epic and urgency that's fitting of having to face a thing two hundred times your own size. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOSTation#p/...A/6/BPtM9-dnY6Y Pretty much everything in Blazblue. Just take the playlist for this, too. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOSTation#p/...0/1/CcduSQw-xio Super Stardust HD has some of THE BEST arcade game music ever. I would replay the first level over and over just for this song. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOSTation#p/...4/1/PC1YJ_aj7MQ dundun DUN DUN! Nomrah
Glad to see some great taste going down!Final Fantasy 6 is easily my favorite FF title and one of my favorite games in general, I grew up on that game. Theres so many songs from that game I'll remember for the rest of my life. Coin of Fate, Terra's Theme, Dancing Mad, Searching for Friends to list a fewAt the Final Fantasy orchestra (Which the great Nobuo Uematsu attended and I saw in the flesh) We had the opportunity to cheer for the song we wanted added to their setlist, Clash on the Big Bridge (ff5), Jenova(ff7), Fight With Seymour(ff10), Dancing Mad(ff6), and Force Your Way(ff8) were all named, I made sure to cheer loudest for Dancing Mad and Clash on the Big Bridge, as expected though everyone went wild over Jenova. In the end Jenova and Dancing Mad won that contest im pretty sure. Also witnessing Terra's theme live was one of the greatest moments of my life. To mention one of the easier to overlook ones: The Actraiser soundtrack is brilliant. Especially the uh symphonic version. Some of the best music I've ever heard, without a doubt. Its cool that you should mention the music from Actraiser. Lately I've been on a huge Streets of Rage kick, turns out Yuzo Koshiro, the same composer for Actraiser, composed most of the music for all three Streets of Rage games. Streets of Rage's intense hardcore techno beats always got me pumped to Bare Knuckle some thugs, also the boss battle music was absolutely wicked. Heres a great compilation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-64UQoUURAhttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a291/Nomrah/streetsofrage3small.jpg I still listen to Megaman X on youtube every now and then. Some of the best music in game history right there. That game had some awesome music.

YUNG MASTERLESS GLENCOUR
From Chrono Trigger this is proably my favorite, or at least up there. I dunno I prefer ff4's and ff6's soundtracks to CT anyday of the week. I also thought Secret of Mana's was better. Uhhh I can't think of any other square games that had a superior soundtrack off the top of my head. ff13's is probably tied for me with CTs though, or just slightly behind. Too bad the game wasn't as good as it's soundtrack! Yeah that Yuzo Koshiro guy also did the Shenmue soundtrack iirc. He's a talented guy. Nomrah
Black Omen is a great song, jazzy and smooth . Out of all the RPG's FF6 will always be my favorite. He's a talented guy.I heard the same thing. Also I'd love there to be a new Streets of Rage and have him work his magic on that. I'd also love to see Tsuranga rave to this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xufo-XZyyJw...feature=relatedMaybe he'll read this and make it happen. Griffon
For shame guys, so many examples that should have been in the first post, but not found anywhere. Of course the music in Guilty Gear and BlazBlue is all fantastic, thanks to Daisuke Ishiwatari. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8SdnRLd6Es The music in Super Metroid fit so goddamn well to the game, that even today few games have been able to match it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtepFydHOhY The music from just about any Devil May Cry game is just plain awesome. Makes you wanna go out and fight a bear. And you'll freakin' win. Phoenix Wright also had a fantastic soundtrack. But the best video game soundtrack, hands down, has got to be Shadow of the Colossus, with a soundtrack that can rival even the best movies.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69io0J2wOBQhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFAvPhuuIAQhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A10qew_PQlk Edited May 31, 2010 by Griffon
Nomrah
For shame guys, so many examples that should have been in the first post, but not found anywhere. The music in Super Metroid fit so goddamn well to the game, that even today few games have been able to match it. The music from just about any Devil May Cry game is just plain awesome. Makes you wanna go out and fight a bear. And you'll freakin' win. Super Metroid and Devil May Cry were two games I was planning on getting to at some point. Super Metroid absolutely captured my imagination as a young child, I literally felt like I was there. That game was soaked in quality, soaked in pure gold actually. The music had so much impact, very atmospheric, very otherworldy, very lonely. Favorite songs.. The atmospheric music that plays when you first exit your ship onto the planets rainy surface ready to dwelve into the unknown, Lower and Upper Brinstar, as well as both sections of Maridia, that place made me feel the most lonely. The world needs more games like this, I swear theres real magic in that cartridge. The music from the first Devil May Cry revved me up so damn much. That game is unbelievably good, to this day I still say that its the best action game ever made, I'd love to see one better, but its just not happening. Insanely great music combined with insanely well made gameplay, this game is intense. Favorite songs include psycho siren, which plays mainly when you fight the Sin Scythes, and the fight music for when you first encounter the Blades in the colliseum area.
